Just upgraded to version 3.4.8. So far, so good after a few install glitches that I resolved by reading this forum. But I noticed with this version that a recording now has a "xxxx.ts.timing.info" file created for each recording.

I never got that file in previous version. What is it used for and is it really needed? If not needed, is there a way to turn off the creation of it?

Thanks as always.

are you recording to a local drive or to a network location like a NAS? or have you changed your recording directory to a FAT32 volume (bad idea)?

the timing.info is normally written into the .ts file as an alternate data stream; it's always created, you just don't normally see it as a separate file. but if NRecord can't create the ADS because the destination file system doesn't support it, then it will create it as a separate file instead.

Actually I am recording to a NAS drive right now. So that explains it.
I am a long time (now retired) mainframe computer guy. Got used to "testing" all new software on a test machine, so I am using my desktop computer for the testing so my HTPC (Brix i3) does not have a problem if there was an issue. After all, my wife wouldn't be happy if she missed her "Jeopardy!". So I am recording to the NAS so I can easily access the files from Kodi on my HTPC. When you're retired, you don't want to get out of your easy chair if you don't have to.

So I guess that means when my 3.4.8 goes into "production" on my HTPC, I won't see those files anymore?
That will probably happen next week. Once I got 3.4.8 installed, it has been going well since.

Thanks for your help. That link you and Graham sent actually has a post from me as I was trying to figure out the NAS portion. Works great with ShareHelper. ShareHelper also fixed another long time issue I had with another software product, so a nice surprise there too.

Thanks. I figured they wouldn't hurt anything but was mostly wondering what the files were used for. I tend to erase TV Shows after they are watched so like to keep things cleaned up, so just wanted to make sure. I wrote a little Python utility that works with a Kodi addon to prompt you after you have stopped watching (a TV episode only) if you want to "resume, "delete", or "watch another show". Works just like my old ReplayTV did. So when I say "delete", it deletes the show plus all the supporting files for that show. And when the directory is empty (last episode of "Jeopardy! in this case) it removes the directory too. So nice and clean and I don't see stuff on my list of shows that are gone (but non-empty directory still showing up). For my wife, I need to make this thing work as much like ReplayTV as possible. Of course it has a lot more bells and whistles then ReplayTV ever had.

Thanks again for the support.

This information is required as an index in recordings for accurate jumping on the PC and NMT's It's not needed for Kodi clients and I'm not sure if fred250 uses it for Samsung/LG.

Martin

It's used by the Smart TV app when "Seek hinting option" is enabled.
