Windows 10 woes.....

Always been a Windows Media Centre user, but with the demise of this software have been playing over the last few months with NPVR and KODI on my existing Windows 8.1 machine and was happy enough to bite the bullet and upgrade (and then wipe/ fresh install).

Now have a few problems..... (surprisingly enough)

I have been running a Pinnacle 7010 ix PCIE card (dual analogue, DVBT and DVBS) card under windows 8.1 using the Blackgold 3450 drivers (as the Pinnacle drivers just crashed the machine every time the TV card was initialised). Now under Windows 10 using either the Pinnacle or Blackgold drivers, when scanning for channels using the right set up (DVBT - UK > Mendip), no channels are found at all by NPVR. I popped in an old PCI TV card I had lying around and this worked absolutely fine. Any ideas? I can obviously use the old card, but this is just a single tuner so would prefer the dual card.

Second problem is that I cannot get the NPVR Recording Service to run automatically after a reboot. In services.msc the service is set to run automatically as the System User. Right clicking and select start works fine (as does using the right click menu on the system tray icon for NPVR), but after each reboot I have to do this manually.

Any help much appreciated!

welcome!

have you also ticked "allow services to interact with desktop" on the services Log On tab?

try scanning with Regions = All regions and scan offsets ticked. Scanning all regions does take about 10 mins.
then zip and upload the logs from the logs folder to people can check for any obvious problems.

For the tuner problem ... Reboot to force a restart of all components (including a manual start of the recording service, if necessary ... there's an icon in the NPVR group on the Start menu) ... this starts new copies of the logs and makes the logs easier to read.

Do a scan and then zip and post the logs ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post480931

For the Recording Service not starting ... is there a message in the Event Viewer?

Thanks for your help, sorry taken so long to respond!

Have managed to sort the problems:

a) Set the service to run as myself rather than the System User (and ensured allow services to interact with desktop was ticked), and all seems OK now

b) Downloaded the very latest BlackGold drivers (even though these were for a totally different type of card), version 8.1.1.2, and all of the channels found. Very strange that the Pinnacle drivers specifically for this card built into Windows 10 don't actually allow this card to function as a TV card, but drivers from a different manufacturer for a different type of card do!

Nevermind, it is working now! Thanks to you both for your help/ suggestions, much appreciated.

Glad to hear that you got it sorted.
You should still be able to run as local system account (This is how I have it set up) but as long as it is all working, I don't it matters.
So the Blackgold drivers are SOOO good, then even work with other tuners! (I;ve got a BG tuner and although damn expensive, i have been 100% delighted with it since the day I got it).

Since Mr Yo has fixed himself up ... I don't suppose that he'll mind a slight hijack of the thread

My experience of Blackgold has been not so good ... My first was a quad tuner that packed up about ten minutes after the warranty expired ... It was a known problem .. Blackgold were selling two duals for the price of one quad while they fixed the quad but they never fixed the quad and stopped selling it. My second fails to start about once a fortnight and NextPVR silently fails to record a show because no data is delivered by the tuner (I now have a parallel processing script to catch that) ... I also suspect that the Blackgold is guilty of sometimes preventing my machine from resuming from sleep but I haven't got around to testing that fully.

The TBS tuner is good for me or I might go with the Hauppauge 5525 if I replace the Blackgold ... Nobody ever got sacked for buying Hauppauge Big Grin

...and another hijack: my experience of Win10 as a desktop OS has been mixed. I like its look & feel (especially when combined with Classic Shell) but it's not yet bulletproof, like Windows 7. So my PVR (and that is its only task) will stay on Win 7 until it's as rock-solid as 7.

- Noisy NAS: Xeon / Intel mobo / 16GB RAM / FreeNAS + Ubuntu VMs on VMware ESXi + 12TB RAID

Can you post your nrecord.log so we can check for any errors when it tried to start the web server?
