It's explained in compskip.txt
This is the setting in my compskip.ini (ATSC mpeg ts in my case)

Code:
live_tv=1                   ; set to 1 if you use parallelprocessing and need the output while recording
standoff_time=0             ; 0 for .ts, 120 for .wtv ;Time in seconds to wait after last file modification when proceesing during recording
live_tv_retries=4           ; change to 16 when using live_tv in BTV, used for mpeg PS and TS
standoff_retries=15         ; 15 for .ts, -1 (disabled) for .wtv Times to retry if the file has grown during recording while sleeping one second between tries, set to -1 to disable.
standoff_time=0             ; 0 for .ts, 120 for .wtv Time in seconds to wait after last file modification when proceesing during recording
standoff_size=1             ; 1Mbyte for .ts, 50MByte for .wtv size in kByte to stay away from the end of the file when processing during recording
standoff_initial_size=1     ; 1Mbyte for .ts, 50MByte for .wtv. Size of file in kByte to wait for before starting processing
standoff_initial_wait=20    ; 20 for .ts, 600 for .wtv. Time in seconds to wait for after file creation time before starting processing
dvrms_live_tv_retries=300   ; only used for dvr_ms
standoff=0                  ; change to 8000000 when using live_tv in BTV

From reading comskip instructions for LiveTV, it appears the following entries are most likely ones to tweak for your issue:
LiveTV=1
; MUST BE 1 for LiveTV

standoff_retries=15
;Times to retry if the file has grown during recording while sleeping one second between tries, set to -1 to disable.

live_tv_retries=4
;When the end of the recording is reach comskip will wait for one second and check to see if the recording is still ongoing. This will be done live_tv_retries times.

Another possible option here...

If you aren't trying to watch live TV and skip commercials, you might try putting comskip in your PostProcessing.bat file (instead of ParallelProcessing.bat). This will more likely mimic the manual way that you ran it when it worked properly (i.e. the file will be fully recorded and not being extended while comskip is running).

yes, comskip works fine in postprocessing.bat without the live_tv_retries=10 setting.

as stated before, I don't see any difference between the description of "standoff_retries" and "live_tv_retries" (both use different words to describe exactly the same thing). for me only live_tv_retries=10 worked, regardless of the "LiveTV" setting. My understanding is that all "LiveTV=1" does is tell it to produce a preliminary .edl file on-the-fly as it processes the recording; otherwise it produces only the final .edl file at the end.

(my experience so far is that the preliminary "live" .edl file is quite inaccurate... not too bad at the beginning, but wildly inaccurate towards the end)

OK, those. I will have some on Thursday since I have 4 programs set to record tonight.
.
live_tv_retries=4 changed to 10 made no difference on CBS news. Still had all ads.
.
No, not watching live TV and killing ads. Only for recordings.

They should still be in the previous recordings ... unless you deleted them .

Try setting "LiveTV=1" as well if you didn't already? I thought that I had solved this with the live_tv_retries=10 before I went back and set LiveTV=1, as I had asked sub for a patch to periodically re-read the .edl file while watching an in-progress recording, but perhaps I'm recalling the order of events wrong.

On my test rig (running comskip 81_88 donators version), setting "live_tv=1" is enough to get parallelprocessing working. The "standoff_retries" and "live_tv_retries" are default values, e.g., 15 and 4 respectively. YMMV if you actually use comskip while watching live TV.

Once again, I am not using comskip to kill ads while watching live TV. Only for recordings. Four during prime time last night all failed. I will check an see what version of donator I have in use now. I am about to remove the donator version and install the free copy. That one, "right out of the box," worked right after installing it. Did not have to adjust anything. Went with the donator version because it was MUCH faster doing a post processing on a recording that was done from my FTA satellite receiver and not recorded by NextPVR.

.
Using version 0.81.083 of donator comskip
