The FTA receiver records them to an external HD. I then copy the three files that are created to a new sub-folder where the recordings are that NPVR made. They only show up as videos and not as a Next recording.

That's because they are not known to the NPVR database. By using something like vidimport it can search for recordings that don't exist in teh database and insert them so that they appear as normal.

I do this to recordings made on a couple of other devices and this works well. The only downside for me is that the NPVR remote PC client only supports .TS files

Very interesting and I will look into this. The FTA receiver does make .TS files so that will not be a problem.
.
I did not find much, if any, info on that program. If it is just a video input program, I have more than one of them. So what "changes" to the .TS file is done by using the import program that makes Next "like" the file and "think" it is one of its files?

You'll find the download and instructions on the wiki. I would suggest that you try it with one or two files first - and make a copy of your npvr.db3 file before you start as a backup in case you have problems.

I use an HP MCE remote and have found that if I select a video in the list, then press the Left Arrow key, this brings up the top menu, where I can then use Right Arrow to move over to the delete command. Press OK and it's done. Smile

Yes, HarryH3, mine will work that way also. Another good idea.

Vidimport does not do anything to the recording file. All it does (dependant on options given) is scan the drive for recordings and create an xml file of what it finds. It may find descriptions in the ts file or even enquire of web sites to get a description. It's final optional step is t import this xml file to the recordings database so that the new recordings are seen as normal recordings. Here is the line I use in my batchfile (default recording location is f:\gbpvr)

vidimport f:\gbpvr xmlin=c:\users\public\npvr\recording-backup.xml import=on

More good information on how to get this program "debugged." "Debugged" in this case means learning just how to make it work correctly. I am at the early stages of this program and it will take time to get everything setup correctly so it will work for me. Last problem with something else was to change a zero to a one and that made it work purrrrrfectly.
.
Update:
Well, I have it working in manual mode. With a few "operations" I can get my videos recorded from my FTA receiver the show up as recordings ready to play in Next. So, we are getting somewhere. Have to go help a friend haul some steel, so more later.
