Center channel on surround sound fades in and out

I just changed my audio setup from stereo only with two front speakers to 5.1 with a sound bar (vizio). WAF plunged because the center channel fades in and out throughout the show. Any ideas on how to cure this?
Setup: computer HDMI -> Panasonic plasma ->spdif ->soundbar. Using LAV decoders.

that's strictly going to be decoder settings, or/and possible settings on the TV, completely beyond NPVR's control. you can also try AC3Filter instead, it has a large number of settings and can be configured as an AC3 pass-thru filter.

Take NPVR out of the equation - see if it does it with other software (using the same decoders) on the PC?
Take the PC out of the equation - does it do it with a DVD or Blu-Ray player? Maybe it's a hardware fault.

But as johnsonx42 says, it won't be an NPVR issue.

My Roku does it too but far less than NPVR. I did a fresh install of NPVR because I upgraded the SSD and upgraded? to windows 10. I did forget to install AC3Filter, however. I will try that and see if there is any difference. It could be anywhere elsewhere on the chain but I wanted to see if anyone knew of NPVR/Decoder combos that showed this behavior.

If your Roku is doing it too, it's sounding a somewhat hardware related.

agree with Johnsonx42, try different decoders

No sound issues when using the AC3Filter. It, however, is defaulting to stereo mix so I am not getting true surround sound. Not sure if I care...

if you click the "..." button next to your decoder choice in nextpvr settings, you'll get the config screen for AC3Filter. there are a lot of options, so tread lightly, but you will find a place to set your output format and speaker configuration.
