Hi,

Is anyone else having issues with the font in NextPVR having upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10? The font has become much thicker (almost as if it is constantly in bold). This means that on the TV guide, nearly energy show title is cropped shorter (where 10 characters would fit before, now only 6 do).

Any suggestions much appreciated. Smile

Just to add some pictures, these pictures show the difference. On the Windows 10 box I am running 3.6.6, and 3.5.7 on the Windows 7 box, but it was the same on Windows 10 with 3.5.7 (i.e. the version of NextPVR makes no difference, only the version of Windows).

You can fix it (kind of) by modifying C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Skin\Default\Global.xml and changing all instances of DroidSans to something like Arial. I downloaded and installed one called Open Sans that is very similar to the 'light' DroidSans we were used to in Windows 7.

In my mind it's always been more like the one of the right, but I may have just forgotten. I have been using Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 for the last couple of years , so maybe it was heavier on those too.

Hi Iain, sub,

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a look. Any idea why DroidSans renders differently on Windows 10 as opposed to Windows 7?

I know a friend who runs NextPVR who has had a similar experience going from Win 7 to Win 10, so I'm not an isolated case.

Looking at the two, it's almost as if on Windows 10 the font always renders in bold, whereas on Win 7 the yellow text (show title) is in bold, but the show description and all the other white text are normal.

Update: On Windows 10 if you rename DroidSans-Bold.ttf to something else, then all the fonts on the screen become normal style (including the show title, which should be in bold).

It seems that for some reason on Windows 10 it is applying the bold style to everything.

I was playing around with this again and noticed that there are other versions of DroidSans with different file sizes. If I use them, I get the reverse problem, fonts are never bold.

Anyone know if this is buggy font files, or maybe something to do with how the fonts are being rendered? I assume this is done by some .NET library?

Sorry, I don't really know why this is happening. The one on the right looks much more readable to me though, so it's all good in my opinion Big Grin

Aw I like the nice thin fonts, looks very sleek and modern and fits more on the screen! Smile Plus, at risk of sounding like a font nerd, it annoys me knowing that it isn't supposed to be that way. Big Grin
