Is anyone using a G7 HP Microserver as NPVR server with Windows 8.1, 10 or 2012 R2? I used mine with Vista for several years then upgraded to Windows 8 last year without problems. However it seems there is a problem with the 2011 BIOS fitted which means that with Windows 8.1, 2012 R2 and 10 the network card doesnât connect to the network.
HP released updated BIOS to fix the problem in 2013 but now it is only available to users with a maintenance contract however it is possible to download the file elsewhere on the Internet. With the later BIOS I can install Windows 8.1 but the problem is that NextPVR does not see the server correctly even though the NPVR share is set to Everyone to have Full Control.
I donât use a Windows client but built one to fault find the problem. When the client starts up it gives error âUnable to communicate with the server SERVER-NAMEâ but behind it the TV Guide and Recordings are working. X-NEWA running on OpenElec does not see the server so starts WOL even though the KODI file manager can see the server and has R/W access to the NPVR share. With Widows 10 the situation is worse because it does not even share directories!!
I donât know if this is a fault with my server or a feature of this particular model. I had set up a temporary server on another computer while I tried to upgrade Windows but have now given up and gone back to Windows 8 which should be ok for a few years!
