Hi sub,

Well, I finally got some data but I'm not sure how to interpret it. I've attached two files: Ntray.log-1 and Ntray.log-2

Ntray.log-1: In this one I started NPVR and then using only the remote, went to Live TV, pressed the green button 3 times, back to Main Menu, 3 more green button presses and then exit. I thought the green button would stand out and be easy to find but I don't see the pattern there. I then assumed that Ntray would be monitoring for IR button presses even when NPVR is not running (as you said to look for the green button and then start NPVR). So I stopped and then started the service figuring that would clear out the log and start again and that produced. . .

Ntray.log-2: It looks like there are two data lines per button press. The first three button presses (lines 1-6) I'm not sure what I did. But lines 7-8 represent the green button from the original remote that came with the Dell PC. Lines 9-10 represent the green button from the Harmony remote (which learned its codes from the Dell remote). Lines 11-12 are the green button from the Dell remote and lines 13-14 are from the Harmony.

Please let me know if you need any more data and I will get it for you.

I assume I can keep using the updated Ntray.exe and all it will do is keep on logging the button presses and when I turn the PC off for the day and then power on the next time I need it, it will start over. Is that correct?

THANKS AGAIN!
Gerry

Can you close NextPVR, restart the ntray.exe (to reset the log), then just press the Green button three times, with a few seconds between each attempt, then post your ntray.log? ie, don't have the NextPVR front end running.

Hi sub,

That's what is in Ntray.log-2. With NPRV not running I stopped and then started the NPVR service, which I think cleared out the log. Then I pressed the green button a few times but all during that time NPVR itself was not running. I think the first 6 lines represented 3 green presses but I not sure. But lines 7-8 represent the green button from the original remote that came with the Dell PC. Lines 9-10 represent the green button from the Harmony remote (which learned its codes from the Dell remote). Lines 11-12 are the green button from the Dell remote and lines 13-14 are from the Harmony.

I think the #2 log file has what you're asking for but if not let me know and I'll run it again.

Thanks,
Gerry

Thats why I wanted you to do it again. There is several different codes shown in that log, and I'm not really sure which is which. I want to see a log that only has the green button presses.

OK, I understand.

Here's two more log files and here's what I did:

First I turned the PC on and as I said I have NPVR in the Startup folder so it comes up right away, but I exited it immediately using the mouse. Then I opened NTray.log and I saw that there was only the start up info and no raw data. Then I pressed the green button on the Harmony remote three times. After each press I looked inside the log and saw that 2 lines of raw data were added for each press ending up with 6 lines of raw data for 3 presses of the green Harmony button. I made a copy of the log and called it Ntray-3.log.

Then I stopped and started the service to clear the log and I verified that there was no raw data. Then I did the same as above with the green button from the Dell remote, ending up with 6 lines in that log. (The Harmony learned its green button from the Dell remote). This log is NTray-4.log

It looks like the data is hexadecimal and I know how to read it but I don't see a pattern. Is the remote data within the 8 hex digits?

(A non-related question. When in Live TV or playing a recorded show, when the mouse hovers in the video window, the time bar and program info appears at the bottom. Is there a remote button that can be pushed to do the same thing?)

Anyway, thanks yet again for all your help.

See if this version starts NextPVR from your green button.

Alt-B, or the blue button on remotes that have the four color buttons.

Hi sub,

Sorry, but no joy! I stopped the service, put the new Ntray in place, started the service and pressed the green button and . . . nothing happened! Tried a few more presses and still nothing. Then I went into the log and it seems this version is not outputting the raw data as you can see in the attached log there is only one entry of raw data and it doesn't get cleared when restarting and no other entries are made when pressing an IR button whether NPVR is running or not.

(The blue button on the remote unfortunately didn't bring up the time line and info. But that is low priority!)

Thanks,
Gerry

That versions shouldn't have produced a log at all. ie, if you delete the ntray.log, is it creating one?

Yes, you are right. I deleted the file and restarted the PC just to make sure and the file was not re-created. So that last log I sent you must have been a left over from previous runs with the previous Ntray.

But alas, the green button remains illusive! I was playing around with the Dell remote and I was surprised that most of the buttons DO work with NPVR, like channel up/down, volume up/down, mute, and others. Unfortunately the green button (and the blue button) seems to be one of the ones that doesn't work - at least not yet!

If there's anything you would like me to try just let me know.

Thanks again,
Gerry
