sub Wrote:Here is another version that will produce a log. Try again with the green button and post the logs again.
Hi sub,
Ok, put in the new NTray.exe and now the log file is back but unfortunately the green button does not work. Attached are 2 log files: Ntray-6 used the green button from the Harmony while #7 used the green button from the Dell. Both files were prepared like the previous ones with 3 button presses, checking the log after each press and NPVR not running.
Let me know if you need any other data. Signing off for today.
Before you give up, can you be sure you are both referring to the same "green button". In this image, there is one that is labeled "Restart Frontend" and one that is labeled "Interactive TV Green Button".

You'll probably need to look at using something like Hip to start NextPVR with your remote.
Hi sub,
First off I just want to thank you once again and I really appreciate the time you took to help me and even to modify Ntray.exe. Even if I never get the green button to work I am still quite pleased with how NPVR is working. However I'm still going to pursue getting the green button to work and I just posted in the Hardware section to ask what brand and model remote other people are using where the green button works. Then I could buy one and learn those buttons into the Harmony and I would be all set.
So thanks again,
Gerry
P. S. What is Hip?

Hi ElihuRozen,
While the Dell remote looks very different from the image you posted, the green button I'm talking about is the same as the one that's marked "Restart Frontend". Its green and has the Windows logo in it, just like in the image. Also, when I was running Win 7 with Win Media Center, that green button DID start up Win Media Center and all the buttons on the Dell did work with WMC. The other green button is part of the red, green, yellow and blue buttons which the Dell remote also has but none of them are recognized bye NPVR.
Could you please let me know what brand and model of remote that you use and if the green Restart and the blue buttons work. This way I could buy one and learn its buttons into my Harmony.

I know what the buttons are for, I just wanted to make sure you & sub were referring to the same thing as each other. I posted what I use in your other thread.
Thanks,
Elihu
P.S. HIP is freeware that can be used with a remote and/or IR transmitter. As I said in the other thread, I use IRSS for this. I used to HIP, but switched to IRSS a few years ago.

The huappauge remote that you have sends different codes than a proper mce remote( harder to find/buy these days)
You will need to either find a mce remote on eBay the same as what sub has posted(other thread) or use a intermediary program like irss to convert the IR signal into key strokes .Sounds tricky but honestly it works really well and gives you really good control over what your IR remote actually controls.Once it's set up you won't even know it's there.

Hi stustunz,
Well, actually the remote I'm using is an MCE remote provided by Dell as part of the package when I bought the PC which was specifically advertised as an HTPC. I used the Dell remote to learn its buttons into the Harmony and all the buttons on both remotes worked properly with Win Media Center under Win 7. Yes, I do have a remote that came with the Hauppauge TV tuner and that remote does work when I'm using Haup's Win TV, but does nothing when I'm running NPVR. I did see some info in the NPVR Wiki on how to set up the Haup's remote to control NPVR and that will be one of the possibilities I'll be looking into. Also I think I saw a place to buy a refurbished MS MCE remote, like sub posted, for $10, so that's another possibility. And I will look into this irss. And lastly I also started a thread more specific to IR remotes with NPVR in the Hardware section and someone there may be posting info on how to put the Harmony's remote database to good use.
Correct
I was guessing when I said huappauge
Many remotes worked with MCE but they all had their own codes and receivers all worked slightly different
That's why you need a program that works with the Dell receiver to translate what it receives from the remote
The Harmony remote just mimics your current remote so leave that out of the equation for now.
