These are the steps to install the app using the Smart TV apploader tool:
  • Download and unzip http://fred250.ownit.nu/public/smarttv/S...loader.zip.

  • Run SmartTVApploader.exe on your Next PVR server/computer (you may need to run as administrator).

  • Use the tab NextPVRWeb to install the app to be served from the NextPVR inbuilt Web server (think NEWA) rather than installed locally on the TV set.
Hit the green button for the latest stable version.

If successful you should be able to navigate the NextPVR UI using an ordinary html5 enabled browser on address http://your-server-ip:8866/touch3/client3.html after entering the correct IP address in settings.
This screenshot is showing NextPVR in a desktop Google Chrome browser.
Accessing the app this way is experimental and showing debugging information along with some navigation buttons.
Also video playback is currently not supported but you may use it to manage your recordings or view EPG.

  • For Samsung
Using the Samsung tab, choose to install the app “NextPVRWeb Launcher”. This is a small program that connects with the NextPVR app you installed in the previous step.
Use the "user application synchronization" procedure to install the app onto the TV. Your specific IP address to use for synchronization will be visible in the tool.
If your are not familiar with "user application synchronization"a quick Internet search should give you the necessary details which also slightly differs between year-models.

  • For LG NetCast, WebOS Not supported
Use the LG tab in the tool to install the launcher app onto the USB memory stick you need to put into the TV.
Don't forget that you also need to have an account and be logged in on the TV or you won't see the app from the USB stick.
(Read TV's Electronic user guide - LG SMART Function/To Use LG Smart World)
It may take some time (5 min or so) after you inserted the USB stick till the app shows, it has to do with LG doing some checks over the internet.

    Time to run the app

  • Start “NextPVRWeb Launcher” on the TV. Enter the IP address for your NextPVR server.

  • After a few seconds you should see the settings and options page.

  • Enter the IP address for your NextPVR server and choose to connect.

You are up and running!

Enter zero three times (0 0 0) to get into settings again if needed.
This is from a desktop browser. It will look slightly different on a Samsung or LG device.

New version update is very simple:
  • Nothing to download, just start the SmartTVApploader.exe from before and hit the green button on the NextPVRWeb tab.

This will update your NextPVR server with the latest version of the app. There are no update or installation steps on the TV itself.
If you wish to install any other version, choose from list “available versions” and hit the gray button.

  • Power cycle your Smart TV device to make sure the app is reloaded.
Update Done!

nice work Fred. I'll give the latest version a whirl on my F-model bluray and let you know how it goes. I won't be surprised if skipping still doesn't work well, seems the video player in that model just isn't ever going to play well with NPVR's .ts files.

I'm using Windows 10, when I try to make a USB for LG TV, the drop down list doesn't show any USB drive. Am i missing something? The drive is plugged in and I can copy files to and from the drive.

Answering my own question: I closed Skype since I saw someone's having the same issue with conflicting apps running on port 80. Skype uses port 80.

Had this working on Windows 7 machine. Now using a Win 8.1 Pro PC for NPVR. Don't use this for anything except browsing, MS Office Apps, NPVR.
Going to the Dropbox location returns "file doesn't live here anymore". Copied the .zip from Win7 PC (dtd May 2016), extracted and ran as Admin. It shows nothing under the available Apps, refreshing does nothing. Clicking the green "Update NexPVR Web Stable" gives unhandled exception (Remote Server returned an error (404)". Even did "Run As Admin" with "Win7 Compat", same result.

More info re: running on Win 8.1 Pro: When it opens, main tab, Path is "C:\Users\Public\NPVR\web" and that contains the Web folder under the SHARED NPVR folder, the top right button for Update Stable is green.
The Grid titled "Available versions" has no entries the "C:\Users\Public\NPVR\web" has the NEWA_ files and folders: 5,API, App_(Browsers,Code,Data,WebReferences),Bin,...touch3 (was named touch, had to rename to touch3) so the files are there.
Clicking Samsung Tab shows correct IP, an empty list under Available Apps, and below that the following:
Samsung app loader started
Loading available apps...
Failed loading available apps!
App Sync Server started on IP 192.168.1.10 port 80
Verifying server...

Have run "Netstat -an > ports.txt", notepad ports.txt, ctrl-f 192.168.1.10:80. Nothing found so port is not in use by anything else.

Have tried Plex, pretty interface but the ff and rw buttons do not work except from remote and they are useless for skipping past commercials or back a few seconds.

Hi James_dk,

Sorry, dropbox has changed how files are shared and all my links are stale.
I will try to fix later this week but as a workaround, you may just copy the touch3 folder from your old computer (C:\Users\Public\NPVR\web\touch3).

The “touch” folder you found and renamed is not mine. It’s an old experiment by bgowland I’ve extended into the current App.

Fred, under touch3, it is only Content / Images / pg_bar and then 6 .png images. Have copied over and renamed the touch back to touch, have even uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled NextPVR 3.9

I tried getting the SmartTVAppLoader to run on Win7 PC to see what was needed but it is also returning that error.
After my Ceton InfiniTV4 died, I ended up getting a SD HD Homerun, then decided to reuse the Dell Optiplex 980 I got doing an upgrade for someone as the NextPVR Server. Bought Win 8.1 Pro, installed it with default config (fresh install, new drive), installed Office365, Webroot Secure AnyWhere and then NextPVR.
I have "turned on IIS" all the way from base config to having inetmgr running. have turned off WebRoot SA. It never shows any Available Apps on either screen so clearly it isn't talking to something.

What is it trying to talk with? Thanks

SmartTVApploader won't work since it's depending on several files off dropbox that got stale.
IIS or the inbuilt web server on port 80 in SmartTVApploader is only used for getting the launcher app onto the Samsung TV.
Since you already got the launcher app on your TV all you need is to put a recent Touch3 folder into NextPVRs web server.

Download, extract and put the Touch3 folder inside C:\Users\Public\NPVR\web.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4mx1i68tutp5zu...2.zip?dl=1

You should be able to see NPVR GUI after entering the correct IP address when pointing a desktop web browser to http://<your npvr server ip>:8866/Touch3/client3.html
The smart TV app is served to your TV from the same web server as NEWA.

You might need to restart NextPVR service to get the Touch3 web loaded after copying.

Your new npvr server probably has an other IP address than your old server that has to be entered into the laucher app.
At your TV at startup of the launcher app, press enter while the loading icon is visable to get into setup mode.
Enter IP address for you new server and the app's setup page or NPVR GUI should show.
The launcher setup mode is not to confuse with the app's setup that has more options than just IP address.

Hope this info helps. My goal is to able to fix the Apploader later this week.

Now fixed...(2017-04-15)
Discard any old versions of SmartTVApploader and download new from link in post #1

First of all let me say that this forum is awesome. Now on to my question. Does the app loader work with the new 2017 samsung tv's? I just got a new MU8000 series samsung and haven't been able to figure out the user application synchronization step for this tv. I can put it in developer mode, and enter the IP address for my NPVR server but when I reboot the TV, the IP is no longer entered, and I don't see the apploader app to select. Are there any troubleshooting steps that I should follow or any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scot
