Hello,

I've set up Npvr and Kodi in my new home, and I've tried for days to get Npvr to write the files to my Freenas Server. I've got the server set up, and I can manually write files, so the Windows 10 machine has permission to write, in my experience, this is the test for making sure things are working. However, I cannot seem to get Npvr to write files to it. I'm enjoying the setup overall, except that I only have 32G free on my SSD, and it fills up quick and starts to fail.

Not sure what background info would help....so here it is.

OTA antenna
HDhomerun network tuner
AMD e350/64G SSD/8GB RAM running win10/npvr
Corei3/6TB/16GB RAM running Freenas 9.3 STABLE
Gigabit Ethernet

Any help is appreciated.

the recording service runs as "Local System", not your normal desktop user. mapped drives won't be there, and network permissions will likely be different.

there are 3 usual solutions...

- allow anonymous access to the share, or host-based access by IP address (not sure which possibilities freenas has)
- use mvallevand's "sharehelper" utility to map network drives into the local system account with specific authentication
- in services.msc, change npvr record service to run as your regular desktop user. there was a time that this had odd consequences, but it seems people do it now without issue.

Simply stated, NextPVR has two components. The client which is the software that you see and use and where you make settings and schedule recording. NextPVR also has a Recording Service that runs continually in the background and it is the Recording Service that receives data from a tuner and creates a recording file. The Recording Service runs under the local system account ... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/120929 ... It may be that your NAS is not configured with permissions for the Windows system account.

Your options include granting read and write permissions to all users for the recording folder on the NAS or changing the user account used by the Recording Service using the Services control panel function (Type services into the Windows 10 search box and select View local services control panel).
