Update: It turns out my problem was completely unrelated to SD. I needed to flush the DNS on my NextPVR recording server and all was fixed. For whatever reason the DNS was having issues. Once I fixed that problem by flushing my DNS and updating to alternate DNS servers, problem solved.

I attempted to empty the EPG, but it didn't do anything. Ran the update anyway and it didn't change anything, still no shows. I also got some "unhandled exception" error message pop up.
