I am running WIndows 10 Home.
My HTPC is always on and never sleeps. NextPVR is always running in the background. For the past 4 months or so I am having this problem. If I restart my PC the day before, it's ok. But if I don't restart my PC.the problem always occurs. I have NextPVR set up to automatically record all my favorite shows as scheduled when they air. However, it never records them. When I go to play them back, instead I get the message "Recording service not running at recording time". If I restarted my PC the day before they aired, then it recorded them fine the following night without a hitch. It's a crap shoot as to whether I will have my favorite shows recorded this time or not. If I restart my PC that day or the day before, higher likelihood. If I haven't restarted my PC that week, then forget about it.

If this continues, I will have to find another service. I'm really getting tired of having to babysit NextPVR and making sure that it records my shows by personally having to be there the night before and turn my pc off and back on. I'd rather pay for something that works than use something for free that only works 30% of the time. But I don't even know what is a really good stable DVR software that I could use. I don't care if it costs money. My time is worth more.

I can tell you that I've been using NextPVR (and GBPVR before that) for many years now. And I record several shows every night. And there are many, many other users around the world that use it very successfully as well. It does work very well.

You haven't really given us any information to try to help you troubleshoot your problem. At a bare minimum, you need to create a .zip file of the NextPVR logs folder on your server and post it here so that we can see what those show. It sounds like your NPVR Recording Service is getting started when Windows boots, but then is dying for some reason at seemingly random times after that. So, you should also check your Windows Event Viewer (in the System log and maybe the Application log as well) to see if there are any error being reported for the NextPVR Recording Service. I suspect that you will find some entries there. Posting any event log messages would also help us to troubleshoot your problem and give you advice about how to resolve the issue(s).

This is the logs folder, attached Zip.
I looked at the scheduled tasks but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Is there something specific I should be seeing under scheduled tasks? I don't see anything dealing with Next PVR.

No, it doesn't use any scheduled tasks.

Is there any errors listed in the Windows Event Viewer, like about nrecord.exe crashing? If there is, hopefully it'll give some useful clues like the faulting module name.

Don't see anything like that. I did see a number of errors that mentioned NPVR. Here are a few of them. There were a number of them. Don't know if this is related though.

The two HauppauageTVServer.exe ones aren't anything to do with NextPVR. These are the Hauppauge WinTV software.

The two NextPVR.exe ones are front end crashes, and would be nice to fix, but don't account for any crash in nrecord.exe (the background recording service). These will be crashes during playback of a recording or live tv.

I'd try creating a c:\temp directory, and hopefully next time you have a crash you'll get a c:\temp\crash.mdmp which will tell us something.

You could go into the window's Services control panel, and view the properties of the NPVR Recording Service, go to the Recovery tab, and set it to restart the service on failure.

You shouldn't have to do that, but it might keep things functioning better until we work out what's happening. There isn't any known issues that would account for the recording service stopping by itself.

I'd have another look in that Windows Event Viewer - I'd expect to either see messages about nrecord.exe crashing, or about the recording service being started/stopped.

I went to window services recovery tab and set it to restart the service on failure. I don't know if it will help but I'll see what it does. Usually if I don't restart my computer a week later, my shows won't record. Hopefully this will work. If it doesn't, I may have to open up "task scheduler" and try to create a task to have my PC automatically reboot every day at 4:00 AM or something. That would prevent NPVR from being idle for more than a day and may remedy the problem. I'd hate to do since it's not really fixing the problem but more like sidestepping it but I may not have another choice.
