Kodi front end on different subnet

I have NPVR running on my laptop, using HDHomerun tuner. This is working well.

I have kodi running on my android phone on the same network and am able to access livetv and recordings fine.

Now for the problem. I have kodi running on a minimx box (android 5.1) but it is on a different router on a different subnet. I get the signal lost message over and over. Since Kodi on my phone is working fine, I believe the problem is because the minimx box is on a different subnet. Is there any way that I can get to my NPVR server from one subnet to another subnet?

Wouldn't you have to do some router magic to push routes from one subnet to the other?

He would need to set up in his router either a static route or turn on some sort of routing protocol
