I installed nPVR to my Win10 PC with USB Q-Cam/ATSC tuner.

The tuner is installed and should be working. I went through the Settings. nPVR detected my tuner and performed a full OTA scan finding 64 channels.

When I try to launch "Live TV", it briefly flashes "Please wait..." for a fraction of a second and that's it.

If I double-click the tray icon to display Devices, the list is empty.

What did I do wrong (if anything?) TIA.

Restart the recording service (to reset the logs), then try watching live tv again, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Sorry for the late reply.

Turning the PC off and back on, I now get sound but no video. When I checked the log, it says at the bottom:

2016-08-15 15:09:30.904 [ERROR][1] Error initialising Direct3D: SlimDX.Direct3D9.Direct3DX9NotFoundException: Direct3DX 9 was not found. Please install the latest DirectX end-user redistributable package from Microsoft. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException: External component has thrown an exception.

I shouldn't need DirectX 9 on a machine with DX12.

The lack of video will come down to your video decoder. From the logs it looks like you're using ffdshow. This decoder defaults to having MPEG2 support disabled. Click the small "..." button next to this decoder selection, and enable MPEG2.

This wont be related to your missing video. This just means you wont be shown the subtle animations between screens in the main UI.

You can have multiple versions of the DirectX runtime installed on a machine. NextPVR is built to use the DirectX9 runtime because it's compatible with versions of Windows all the way back to XP. If I'd built it to use DirectX12, then it'd only be compatible with people using Win10. There isn't a generic method of using "any version of directx that happens to be installed" - you've got to target a specific one.

Thanks for the reply.

Switching the MPEG decoder to "LAV Video" (the only other option) got it working.

No need to screw with DirectX. All versions of DX are backward compatible (though DX12 is the first one not *100%* backwards compatible.)

Thanks.

Avoid the LAV video decoder as it does not work well with NextPVR!

DX9 is only needed the speed up the menus.

Thanks. I'll look into downloading a better codec pack.

The nPVR site should put a note and recommended decoder link on the download page to avoid these problems. Sad

If you read the sticky at the top of the forum, you will see

My experience with LAV video and NextPVR is that the more powerful the CPU the better that the two get along. Low end CPUs with LAV and NextPVR just don't get along. I have no problems with low end CPUs that use LAV and other video players other than NextPVR.
