Permanently convert dvr-ms to mpeg

I've just been looking at how dvr-ms playback on the MVP works. The process to convert a one hour programme (dvr-ms format) to the temp. mpg file used for the playback, took 58 seconds according to the Trans2MVP logfile. This is pretty lightweight stuff. So, wishlist entry...

An option in GB-PVR to have it automatically convert anything recorded in dvr-ms format to MPEG format at the end of the recording.

Using dvr-ms format is my preferred format at the moment as it is consistently stable. I like the fact that dvr-ms playback is supported on the MVP but the lack of the Resume feature can be a minor problem in my house (my wife often watches a long film over a period of 2 or 3 days in bite-size chunks).

Hello Brian. This could be done via the PostProcessing.bat file. Do it like comskip and use the %1 filename substitution wotsit.

Hi Chris. Yes, I've been looking at this using Trans2MVP but there are a number of issues.

Firstly, I don't want it to run for every recording - the majority of mine (at present) are done with my analogue cards and are already mpg files. To get round this I've written an EXE that tests the filename extension and only runs Trans2MVP on ".dvr-ms" files. OK so far.

The next problem is that in 'Recordings' in GB-PVR, the database will still be referencing the dvr-ms version of the file - the mpg version is only available from 'Video Library'. If I get time tonight I'll add code to my EXE to modify the database to reference the mpg file.

The final problem is that anything else in the PostProcessing.bat file that uses the %1 variable, will be processing the dvr-ms file and not the mpg. So 'comskip %1' wouldn't be any use if I tweak the database to reference the mpg. I have an idea for generating a post-PostProcessing.bat to handle that but it's a kludge.

It should all work but it won't be particularly elegant and there are a number of stages that could go wrong.
