Hi All -

Tried searching the forum but don't think I got a perfect answer to this question.

Current setup: NextPVR running on my laptop, with Kodi on AFTVs connected to my TVs running Kodi.

While watching a program that is currently recording on Kodi, when it hits the spot in the recording where I started watching, it ends, and there's no way to resume if I restart watching. From what I can tell this is WAI in Kodi due to how it's set up (saw a few threads where this is mentioned).

My question is: Is there a workaround to this? For example:
  1. Can I just run NextPVR on my AFTV?
  2. Can I fix this behavior in Kodi at all?
  3. Is there an alternative I should think of for this setup (IE don't use AFTV but use something else?

Thanks for the help!

IMHO the AFTV is not the best client for playing mpeg2 video but if you sideload the real Kodi on AFTV you could use x-newa configured to play from shares not http.

Yeah, this is a limitation in Kodi when playing http streams. Hopefully they're get around to fixing it one of these days. They've been aware of it for years though, so I wouldn't count on it...

As Martin mentioned, getting the x-newa addon working in Kodi will give you an option to work around it.

What would you suggest as better clients (preferably that are wife friendly)

Would something other than Kodi be advised?

that's odd that this is a known Kodi bug, as I find playing in-progress recordings generally works for me (and I'm not using path substitution). sometimes playback ends when it reaches the original timeline end, but most of the time it keeps playing.

(side note, it took me a bit to figure out what "AFTV" was... I even googled it and came up with "Amazing Facts Television" and some African TV station in the netherlands. the it finally occurred to me - Amazon Fire TV.)

johnsonx42 it would be interesting to see your logs when this happens from pvr.nextpvr or x-newa when playing with http. I am sure there is an explanation. Also x-newa doesn't need path substitution if you save files to a UNC share

I'll try to get some logs next time I watch an in-progress recording. I don't have easy access to the Kodi logs though, the limited attempts I've made to access the Nexus Player over the network have failed. I gather that I can use the File Manager in Kodi to copy files to/from an SMB share, so I'll give that a try.

There is a Kodi addon that will upload logs to the web and then you can provide a URL You would need to enable debug logging though.

I have used this app on both my shield tv and nexus player to transfer files. X-plore File Manager As I remember I was able to navigate it fairly well with the remote. It allows you to mount and transfer files to windows shares as well as services such as dropbox. You do have to turn on a setting to be able to view the hidden kodi log files.

ES File explorer, which is far more popular wasn't very remote friendly.....
