The show recorded and was displayed in the NPVR Recordings tab; opened fine and played back without a hitch. Logs are attached.

So, what does this mean about how I am - or not - connecting to my NAS at \\WDMYCLOUDEX4100\Argus_TV_ Recordings ??? What steps can I take to overcome this disconnect? Based on a prior response, can I safely conclude that the non-connection is NOT due to the limitations of WinTV8?
If there is a solution, I'd like to rename the share in the NAS directory as "NPRV_TV_Recordings" My understanding is that unlike Argus and from looking at the directory for the successful (temporary?) share on my drive c:, only 1 share is necessary.
thanks for your guidance / assistance,

Correct - it's nothing to do with WinTV8

Maybe try going into the Windows 'Services' control panel, and view the properties of the NPVR Recording Service, and change the account from localsystem to your account. Hopefully it'll then be able to write to your NAS.

If it is not working maybe try the IP and not the netbios name or put the IP into the hosts file

The show on WFXT (ch 31) successfully recorded, was displayed in NPVR Recordings and played successfully when I selected it. I also found the file for the show in the directory I entered (hopefully temporarily) as the default Recordings directory, c:\users\public\npvr\media Logs are attached.

But what does this mean about how NPVR Recordings are (not) connecting to the NAS directory (\\WDMYCLOUDEX4100\Argus_TV_ Recordings) where I want/need them to be? Based on prior feedback, it seems I can safely assume that this lack of connection has nothing to do with the limitations of WinTV8. That said, what is going wrong with this connection and how might I be able to fix it?

Thanks again for your guidance and assistance,
Bob

See our replies above. ie, try changing the service startup account, or try changing the name to ip address in the UNC path, or both.

I changed the default recording directory to c:\users\public\npvr\media and started recording channel 31, WFXT which is only about 7 or so miles from my house and line of sight from my rooftop antenna. I'll post logs when done. BTW - did I get it right when I forwarded logs the first time in this thread? Based on mikeh49's comments, I assume I have and will follow that approach again unless advised otherwise.

Don't know why this addition to my post didn't actually get posted to the forum, but here goes again:
The program recorded successfully, was displayed in NPVR Recordings, opened and played flawlessly when selected. Further, file explorer showed the recorded program in the (newly and hopefully temporary) designated default directory, c:\users\public\npvr\media Updated logs are attached.

But what can I do now to resolve the inability of RECORDINGS to connect with the desired directory in my NAS, \\WDMYCLOUDEX4100\Argus_TV_ Recordings ???
Based on prior feedback, it appears I do not need to be concerned about the limitation of WinTV8, i.e., that it will not make a network connection. What can I do within NPVR to make this connection with the RECORDINGS module successfully?
thanks again,
bob

My apologies about the redundant posts. Even though I exited this thread and then returned on 3 occasions, I did not see that my prior submissions got through.
I'll get better at this - hopefully quite soon!

I tried the suggested steps without success. That said, I probably need to make sure my home network is configured correctly over the coming day or two - something I should figure out how to do without using up even more of your time. So I will return to this thread later to report SOLVED or, if not, to launch a new thread about what is and is not working with connecting with my NAS.
BTW: The support you provide through this Forum both through Sub and through Senior Members is quite amazing, wonderful and greatly appreciated. After my experience with little to no response with Argus, I was reluctant to finalize my choice of NextPVR for my HTPC portfolio of software. I'm definitely sold and will now make my overdue contribution to this special application and community.
thanks again,

To find your wintv8 recordings try searching your drive or c drive for any *.TS files This should find the show you recorded. Unless you change the default destination in wintv8 it will record to C:users\public\video directory. This can be found in settings under the capture tab.

SUCCESS!!!
The inability of NPVR Recordings to find the separate NAS device (which had "everyone" permissions for read and write) did turn out to be a windows networking and permissions issue that was solved, as Sub recommended, by editing the NPVR Recording Services log on entry from Local System.
For those not particularly fluent in windows networking (and despite lots of recent study, I still have at least one foot in that pool), my first several attempts to make this change were unsuccessful because I didn't understand what Sub meant by: "...change the account from localsystem to your account." I changed localsystem to network system and tried the primary (and other) password(s) used in my network - and none worked. The recordings kept terminating with nothing saved. I finally figured out that by not having any users created for my HTPC (other than "administrator" with no password), I was not fulfilling the "to your account" part of Sub's rec. So I created a new user and password, did a search in "services > properties" for that user, and selected it when it came up. Works like a charm.
Thanks again to Sub and the wonderful community of expert support new users like me can benefit from - with, of course, sufficient sweat and tenacity on our own part!
