I made a change on my machine, and now I can browse to the network share. Honestly, I'm not sure which change did it. It just suddenly started working. Perhaps just took some time to be discoverable.

The share is a PUBLIC share, so it is accessible by all, however, NextPVR still cannot write the temp file to the temporary location. I remember in my original posting Sub said that NextPVR runs under a different user, not the user that I'm logged in as. Do I have to create a special user on the NAS so NextPVR can access the share? I tried creating an anonymous user, but the NAS told me it was reserved and wouldn't let me create it.

Suggestions?

Thank you.

Daryl

if your NAS won't allow anonymous RW access to the share, then you may need to change the user NRecord runs as in services.msc. I don't know what user id windows presents when Local System tries to access a network share.

you could also try sharehelper as mentioned before: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post344119

I secure shelled into the nas and looked at the permission to the directory. Owner and group are both root, but it is also world writable. I looked at the Recordings and Temp directory. They are both owned by me, but also world readable.

I tried looking in the logs for any issue, but I don't even see where it's trying to write to the share. How can enable debugging?

NextPVR's recording service is running as the "localsystem" account, which probably can't access to your share. Go into the properties for the service and try running it as your user acount instead.

Given you wrote "root" I assume your NAS is linux based so Windows rules won't apply. Did you enable the guest account for anonymous access

I tried that, but Windows insists on populating a password in the password field. I don't use a password on this machine. The service won't restart if I put my account it it, with or without a password.

Yes, you are correct. My NAS is Linux based. To the best of my knowledge, the NAS does not have a guest account. At least not one that I can find.

I tried creating both an "Anonymous" and "Guest" accounts. I was politely told that those are reserved accounts, and that I can't create users with those names.

Are you saying that this works? I downloaded it, unzipped it, ran the install, but my virus scanner blocked as being a suspicious file. I deleted it and will not install it.

I wrote ShareHelper and use it everyday and yes it works. Not sure about your virus scanner. It is an old file so the MD5 hasn't changed since 2010 1b47ec0b574b1e753ec624043a82a0e6

Seems it has been checked online too http://whitelisting.kaspersky.com/adviso...043a82a0e6 and https://www.reasoncoresecurity.com/share...9ea49.aspx with no problems.
