Whe are now discussing 3 issues in the same thread which starts to confuse me.
Problems:
1) Comskip crashes right after writing "Initial commercial list" : The crash problem
2) Comskip cuts 5 seconds before a commercial and 5 seconds after a commercial: The 5 seconds problem
3) Is it possible to reduce the commercials cut with some seconds: the padding problem.

For problem 1 and 2 i would like to receive log and mpeg files on my ftp site. PM me for the details.
Don't ZIP MPEG files if you ftp them because the smallest problem will make the big file unreadable. (please upload the mpeg again Smile )

For problem 1 I am experiencing some amazing visualC++ optimisation problems. While in debug mode everything is OK, in release mode it totall screws up. So I did rewrite the commercial generation part (which was way to complex anyway)

Problem 2 must be in the segmentation and can possibly be judged from the log file but best from the mpeg

Problem 3 is now clear I assume.

Newbie question: Does ComSkip recognize logos on the right-side of the screen too? Does it assume commercials have no logo?

Reasons behind the question are the way commercials are in Israel.
Examples:
Israeli Channel 1: Channel logo on right-side during show, no logo during commercials.
Israeli Channel 2: Channel logo on right-side during show, different logo during commercials.
Israeli Channel 10: Like channel 2, but some commercials don't have logo.
National Geographic: Logo on left during show, partial-time logo on right during commercials.

Many many other channels have logo on the right-side.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this...

Quote:Israeli Channel 1: Channel logo on right-side during show, no logo during commercials.
Should be no problem. Comskip recognizes logo's both left and right, top and bottom.
Quote:Channel logo on right-side during show, different logo during commercials
Comskip can learn one logo, available for at least 50 seconds, the first it finds, once learned it uses that logo to discriminate show from commercials. So if the first logo in the recording is the show logo then it should work.
Quote:Israeli Channel 10: Like channel 2, but some commercials don't have logo.

Should work like the previous example.

Linfo,

I checked your log, the mpeg and the ini you send.

In your ini you still have padding=60 which is consistant (as reboot stated) with you observation of having about 5 (actually 4) minutes of commercials between the cuts of the show.
Please completely remove that line from the ini file.
It is NOT needed for normal usage.

@erik: Thanks. Is there an official page for ComSkip? I saw some STV related pages but none are 100% up-to-date, and I couldn't find a discussion forum dedicated to it.

I have found the bug that is causing comskip 0.72 to crash on certain movies.
Hope te release the new version soon.

Next to that I have found why 0.70, 0.71 and 0.72 where worse at finding black frames so that is also solved.

Sound works very good at my test videos.

Hope to have a release for you very soon!!

Erik,
I have tested the ini with padding and without padding (just ran comskip not even a minute ago) and it does the same thing. No padding puts 5 minutes on front and 4 on back end of each com. WIth padding there is 4 mins on front and 3 minutes on back.

Please help me to better understand your problem
The file you send me generated this segments

Code:
Block list after weighing with threshold of 0.2800
----------------------------------------------------
#     sbf  bs   be     fs     fe    sc     len    scc    scr  cmbnd   ar     cut  bri  logo        cc
  0)-    1   0    1      1     37   0.60    1.201   2    1.67     0  1.75     a     76  0.00    NONE
  1)-    2   1    1     38   1064   0.60   34.234  14    0.41     0  2.03     a     66  0.00    NONE
  2)+    2   1    1   1065  27605   0.01  885.552 308    0.35     0  1.64     a     85  0.99    NONE
  3)-    8   1    7  27606  27789   9.92    6.106  56    9.17    10  2.03       b  108  0.00    NONE
  4)-    8   1    7  27802  28691  33.49   29.663 284    9.57    12  1.64       b  123  0.00    NONE

Segment 1 is the leadin of the show. It is regarded as a commercial because it has a different aspect ratio.
The actual show starts at segment 2. (fs and fe are framestart and frameend)
Segment 3 is the leadout of the show. It is regarded as commercial because it has a different aspect ratio.
If you want segments 1 and 3 to be part of the show you must disable "aspect ratio" in the ini file, that is, subtract 32 of the detect_method

But that is the whole point. If you look at the cutlist you will see that at segment 3 it skips the lead out and just mark the cut for the actual commercials. I wish to have the leadout cut as well.
