1st - apologies. I just realized I posted something similar to this yesterday without logs and some of the specifics. Sub responded and gave me an overview of how the "wakeup" process should work. Thank you for that.

I'd appreciate any additional thoughts or suggestions if what I have posted below adds any useful info for figuring out why my box isn't waking. I'm hoping it is not the ACPI situation Sub noted in my other post and that this is something that can be fixed. The box is definitely only going to standby (not shutting down or hibernating) as it lights up quickly at touch of the keyboard or movement of the mouse and the nrecord service is still running.

thanks again!

Hi folks,

I'm struggling here. Initially running npvr on Box A for a long time with no problems. Moved npvr to Box B and ran into challenges, resulting in stripping box B down to bare metal (wiped disk), fresh windows 10 pro 32bit install, fresh HDHomeRun drivers and fresh npvr install.

At this point, I believe everything is working, however the box does not seem to be waking from sleep. If the box is awake, recordings, epg update, etc appear to happen as expected. However, if I'm reading the logs correctly, nothing happens after the box goes to sleep. Recordings get noted as "recording service not running at recording time" and the EPG batch file runs only the next time I sit down and hit a key on the keyboard to wake the box.

In the attached logs, you'll see I sat down and hit the keyboard at about 6:15 this morning. nothing appears in the logs prior to that back to noon or so the previous day. There were recordings scheduled for last evening plus an EPG update for around 2am today. The recordings didn't happen and the EPG update didn't happen until after I woke the box this morning.

I'm also attaching a screen cap of my power settings on this box. If it makes any difference, this is a little nVidia ION based machine.

Thanks very much for any help and please let me know if there is any other data I can provide for analysis.

Best regards,

I presume your problem is that the computer did not "wake" to make your recording. Have you tried running "powercfg /waketimers" which will list all the current wake times. The computer should wake from "Sleep" or "Hibernation". When it works correctly there will be Windows log entries listing when it went to sleep and woke up.

Hi Chris,

Thank you. That does seem to be the issue. I just ran powercfg /waketimers and there is a list of them that come back along the lines of:
"Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Program Files\NPVR\NRecord.exe (NPVR Recording Service) expires at 6:28:00 PM on 1/27/2017."
so it looks like npvr is certainly doing its part to request that the system wake appropriately.

I just looked at the event logs and the only entries that report
"The system has returned from a low power state"
indicate that either the USB hub (keyboard/mouse?) or the network controller initiated the wake.

The wake timers don't show in the logs (that I can tell).

Sounds like this may be outside of the scope of this npvr support forum, but would you (anybody) have any other guess/suggestion why the npvr wake timers are not being recognized and bringing the machine back from low-power as requested?

thanks for your help,
rjb

Think I found it... read some posts elsewhere about wake timers, acpi, etc. and found some info about needing to possibly enable some additional ACPI options in the system bios.

Found two items in my bios under ACPI that were defaulted to "DISABLE":
 • RTC Alarm Power On
 • HPET Table
I enabled both of those and now the box seems to be waking per the npvr wake timers as expected.

FWIW, the other posts I read said to set "RTC Alarm Power On" to "any time" just to enable it, and that would then allow Windows to overwrite with different times as requested by wake timers. I also ENABLED "HPET Table", having no idea if it makes a difference.

I would be interested in hearing more about these settings if anybody has the time to offer a little more clarification.

In case it helps anybody else, here's what it looks like in the manual for my BIOS on this ancient 2009 ASRock 330HT miniPC. (maybe this is only an issue on older systems?)

Your logs for a the first EPG update look all messed up. It doesn't seem to wake for update yet when it does the process falls asleep several times and this blocked a recording of Live with Kelly. However this may cause other problems because you shouldn't be recording and doing an EPG update at the same time.

Since you are using an xmltv download script maybe it is wrong.

Also note that if you download takes a long time you may need to change the System unattended sleep timeout setting.

Finally you have schedules direct enabled for meta art without an account and this should be turned off.
