My Music ripper - not getting id3 info

Hi,

I'm a newb, so apologies if this has already been discussed - I have tried searching.

When I rip a CD in the My Music plugin, it rips perfectly, but places the rips in a directory with a random string of numbers for a name, and each is track is simply named track 1,2,3 etc.

I thought that the MyMusic ripper performed a freeDB lookup to download the correct tags? Am I missing something?

Also, is the ripper designed to download the album cover from freeDB aswell?

it does do a lookup, but it cant always find info, if no info is found it uses the number of ticks from 1970 as the folder name (so no folder names are the same).

and no it doesnt get album art from freedb, the code i use doesnt allow for this.

Thanks for getting back to me, reven.

I have now tried five different CDs, including U2 - Joshua Tree, and The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers. But it still does exactly the same thing. Surely something must be wrong if it cannot lookup these CDs?

errrrr illl look into it in a few days. something could be wrong with freedb or the code i use (its not my code) i havent ripped a cd in ages.

I want to make my HTPC as self-sufficient as possible, so the CD ripping is very handy.

Do you have any plans to develop the functionality of MyMusic? Your MyVideos plugin is superb, and it would be great to have a similar popup menu in MyMusic to allow fine editing of details and downloading covers.

the problem with covers is i couldnt find a site which had enough cd cover art available. amazon.com has a few but no where near enough. i would love to find a site with info about the cd and cover art (which would be displayed in the "details" view).

it would be nice to download other things like lyrics, music videos, mp3s etc.


my music probably could do with a rewrite....

Well, I always use Allmusic.com to find info about bands and CDs. It is very rare that they don't have a detailed description and picture of the album.

I know that the modern (legal) Napster client grabs the data from that site to provide album info. I think it is also quite legal to download this data for personal, non-comercial use. Of course, I have no idea how one would lookup this data with a plugin, but that's where you come in!

well their search method is different, not a easy way to emulate. they seem to have enough info (didnt have a desc on my "test" album (which is hard to find one) but did have album art).

if im able to actually fake a search request and get the search results ill add it, but it may be alittle tricky (but doable, just have to figure out how).

That would make the plugin a real winner. I don't think there is another app anywhere that can automatically download all the proper data for albums. Good luck!
