It'd be worth doing that simple test first, to see if it's working the way I describe, or if its behaving differently. This will help narrow down the type of problem, so we know where to look.
Quote:Just a clarification, when selecting a channel to watch using the guide, that is the same as selecting a channel using Live TV?
Yes.
Quote: So when the channel is changed the files should be tidied up?
Yes

Has this issue been resolved yet? I'm often impacted by the buffer directory filling up my Harddrive.

He never came back with feedback about the steps I asked him to do, so we never narrowed down where his problem was happening, so no changes were made.

Kodi Live TV skipping is near and dear to my heart, so figured I'd give this one a try and see what I got.

Turned a channel on and just let it go here's what I saw:
Creates 6:40 long files starting to number from zero then 2 (so not IBM numbering)
Example:
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-2
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-3

So on so forth

When it got to
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-5
it deletes
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-2
and then never deletes again

so I'd end up with
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-3
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-4
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-5
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-6
live-KKTV-HD-1556-7-7

and so on.
Once I stopped the stream it deleted all files

So if I'd started a program paused for 30 minutes and came back it would have the first 6 minutes, skip the next 6, and be intact from then on.

Don't know if that helps with chasing this down. Mine seems to clean up fine, let me know if there are any details/logs that would help.

Repeated this test over several hours and never got the same behavior again. Paused for an hour and I'd get 10 6:40 files. Stop and they all delete. Played it for an hour and same... Also tried moving the live TV folder to somewhere that the client did not have access to (but the NPVR does) and nothing... so yeah can' duplicate this behavior, and can't even duplicate my original results.

I have had the same issue from day 1 using nextpvr my W7-based server and a 3-tuner HDHR Prime. Most of the temp files get deleted as Sub describes, but there are always some artifact files that are not automatically deleted. I have posted regarding this in the past, but the issue persists for me until this day.

My workaround is to fire off a batch file that deletes the files in the temp folder whenever the server wakes and/or boots and included in PostEPGupdate.bat which is run nightly.

Works well for me.

sub Wrote:If you empty out that directory, and start viewing live tv, you should see up to 4 files get created. When it creates the 5th file, the oldest is deleted. When you stop live tv, the four files should get deleted.

To help us narrow down on the cause, I suggest you start live tv on a channel and leave it running, to confirm you're seeing the behaviour I describe above. Depending on what behaviour you get, I'll suggest next steps to try.

Thanks sub, can you let us know which size each of the four files should have?
I am trying to calculate the maximum size I will need when playing live TV from Kodi Nextpvr addon WITHOUT timeshift enabled.
I would like to try out putting the live TV buffer on Ramdisk directly on PC RAM, so size of Ramdisk should be finite.

Thanks and regards

The size would depend on the bitrate of the TV channels you're watching. They're approximately 6 minute long files, of whatever content your broadcaster is sending.
