When you say that "it does need a fast processor and BUS speed", I am wondering if my PC can run this card smoothly (I am starting to think I may get one instead of the USB tuner).

I have a Dell XPS 8300
i5-2300
2.80GHz
16 GB RAM
500GB SSD

Should the above be enough to run that card smoothly ?

You are stating I can record sub channels simultaneously ?

I thought that because the USB has only 2 tuners, i can only record 2 shows at one. no matter what

NextPVR can use a single tuner to simultaneously record all of the channels broadcast on a single frequency.

I think there are a lot of exaggerated claims about processor power needed to record and play back video when the processor does not play a big part in the process. I am using a 4 year old HP microserver with twin 2GHZ E450 processor which is probably sub Celeron territory. I have four tuners three of which can do HD, a PCIe twin DVB-S/S2 a USB DVB-T/T2 and USB DVB-T and not aware of any corrupted recordings even when recording several and playing back at the same time!

I don't see anything about a DVB version of the card. Only what is in the link below. What is the DVB version?

The DVB version and ATSC/QAM version used in North America are different technology.

For the multi rec feature it doesn't necessarily mean more tuners. Basically for OTA ATSC you will get channels that share the same frequency commonly displays with the sub channels ie 24.1 24.2 etc. If you don't know what those are got to http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/...aid=zap2it enter your zip code and find the local channels. Often only one of these sub channels will be HD.

Unless, you use padding. In that case, you could be doing 12 recordings at once, for a little while.

Say your kid records a show on channel 24.1 from 8:30-9 and you and your significant other record a show on 24.1 from 9-10. If that channel is a few seconds behind and you do not use padding, at exactly 9, it will stop recording your kid's show and start recording yours. That would mean that the end of his show would be only viewable at the beginning of your show. So you would have to not delete your show after you watch it until he has watched his. So, instead of that, you turn on 1 or 2 minutes of padding at the beginning and end of every show. Now, from 8:59 to 9:01, it is writing the data from 24.1 to the recording of both shows. If you are doing that for all 6 channels on your two tuners, you could be recording 12 shows for those 2 minutes.

Why would one need 4 tuners. In the US, the city that you live in has been assigned to a Nielsen MDA. Nielsen has some 210 DMA for the US. There are 5 national networks: ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS and CW( some could object calling the CW a network). These national networks try to have affiliates(TV stations) in each of the DMAs. A DMA may also have 1 or more independent stations with their own programming. I live in the Charlotte, NC DMA. I have all 5 networks, plus 2 independent stations. So, at 8PM, I have potentially 7 shows I want to watch. But I can only watch 1 live. The reality is that, at most I will want to watch 1 and record 2 others. Or maybe I will not be home that night and therefore need to record 3 shows at 8 PM. More tuners equal more flexibility.

I do not use by desktop (2 tuner PCIE and SD Connect) for live viewing, just recording. 98% of my recording require only 2 tuners. The other 2% require 3 tuners. If you are going to dedicate one of your dual tuner to live viewing, that leaves only 1 tuner for recording(worst case condition). It all depends upon how many people are in your household and what their viewing requirements are.

Speaking of the content I get in my area, one of the channels is JN (The Justice Network).

I love love LOVE investigation discovery (from Comcast and Direct TV), so, this channel being available really caught my attention

A question I have about the content of this channel (not sure if anyone knows, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask). Do they actually get new shows that air on during prime time? Do they have seasons of shows ? Do they air repeats all day ? I am really not sure where the content comes from, but, this is EXACTLY hat I thought I would be missing. To my surprise, it is going to be available.

Anything anyone knows about this and can share would be GREATLY appreciated
