this would be great it it did happen, but i have the feeling it kodi that needs some of the re work as well

If you mean the web client OSD timeline from NextPVR it is definitely still working for me. If you get the NextPVR style timeline from NextPVR and it doesn't show it probably doesn't show in the NextPVR client either so the problem is likely with the edl file itself.
Not sure exactly what you mean by the "web client" as I am running the X-newa add-on from within Kodi. I get the same behavior from X-newa as I do if I go to videos/files and play it there. The com skip is working properly, but I do not see the gaps on the timeline when I press the info button or move my cursor to show the play/stop buttons, etc.
So in fairness (as I think about this) probably NOT a x-newa issue. Most likely something to do with the video player not showing the information on the timeline. I do get a pop-up when a commercial is skipping, showing the length of the commercial.
The Kodi player has never shown comskip breaks on the timeline. In X-NEWA there is an option to use web client which gives you the NextPVR screen including the comskip timeline.
