Issue With Recording Shows

When I schedule a show to record and select Record Season (New Episodes On This Channel) it records old and new episodes. Is there any way to just record the new episodes?

The "New" is a tag in the EPG data ... I would have expected NextPVR to have not recorded a show if the tag was missing in the EPG data for that show.

The default is all shows are new. You need a good data source like Schedules Direct to get this flag.

To be sure that I understand ... a novelty for me ...

I record all New episodes of xxyyz

NextPVR looks for New tags in all of the EPG records of xxyyz

If no New tags are found ... NextPVR records all episodes

or

If one or more episodes have New tags, NextPVR records only the episodes with New tags

I assume that the thinking is that NextPVR will always try and record something.

I'm pretty sure it's neither of these. Basically NextPVR will look through the entire EPG to see if there are any shows where the provider explicitly flagged them as "new". If so, then it operates in a mode where only shows explicitly marked as "new" are considered new and match "Record Season (New Episodes Only)" rules. However, if there are not any shows explicitly marked as "new", then it operates in a mode where it thinks the EPG provider doesn't identify "new" and "old" epsiodes. In this mode, it considers ALL shows to be "new" and all shows will match the "new episodes only" rules.

A show is assumed to be "new" unless it knows otherwise. Only some EPGs identify a show as being "new" or "repeat" - if the EPG doesn't provide this info, then it's assumed to be new.
