First, let me admit that my limited knowledge of all things digital means that I have no business being here. That said, I am a long time user of GBPVR/PVRX2 that has worked great for me for over 10 years. When it was replaced with NEXTPVR I opted to stay with it because 1) I had four wired Media MVPs connected to my PC giving me "whole house DVRs", 2) I'm not that picky about the picture quality rendered by the MVPs, and 3) I enjoyed using Comskip. I should state at this point that I AM NOT looking for GBPVR support.

Well, my PC recently did an update to Windows 10 after which the video on the MVPs played in slow motion. I tried everything I could think of to fix it, but nothing worked. I also tried System restore and undoing the update to no avail. So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling GBPVR, thinking perhaps the dongle was corrupted. Now GBPVR won't even work on my PC. The TV Guide won't work, and changes I make to directories in Config don't show up in GBPVR. I'm assuming that GBPVR, God rest her soul, is no longer compatible with Windows 10.

The purpose of this post is to elicit suggestions on what hardware I need to get into NEXTPVR. I currently have Spectrum cable and have a dual tuner Hauppauge HVR-2250 (no set-top box) wired to four Media MVPs.

Questions:

1. Will the HVR-2250 work with NEXTPVR? If not, what is a good comparable replacement?
2. Since my house is already wired for media servers, what is a good, preferably inexpensive since I'll need four, replacement for the MediaMVPs.

Thanks in advance.

I think you'd be one of the last few. Glad to hear you enjoyed it all those years.

Yes. If you're doing analog, you will need either Hauppauge WinTV or SoftPVR installed (otherwise you'll only see the digital tuners listed).

There is probably a few options - maybe cheap client devices running Kodi? I don't do this here, but lots of others do, and hopefully they'll be able to recommend a device. Maybe Raspberry Pi or similar devices.

I'm running 2 Raspberry PIs with OSMC and they're pretty good for their small cost.

Some years ago I replaced my MVPs with PCH A110s bought second-hand on fleabay (they still come up regularly in the UK) - pretty much set them up and forget...

With Spectrum cable, I believe you can get a Cable Card. That card, matched with a Silicon Dust Home Run Prime, ( on sale at Best Buy now) will provide 3 tuners over your network. Meaning you can watch/record up to 3 shows simultaneously. Note: You won't be able to watch or record copy-protected channels (ie. HBO, Showtime, etc...). Also, with your Hauppauge card, you could introduce the HDHR Prime at a later date.

For clients, I recommend either Raspberry Pi3 or B+ (not sure about the lower priced Pi Zero). The Pi3 kit will run around $50 on Amazon. For the Pi OS, I use LibreElec (free) which is a turn-key Kodi implementation.

Still running 1.2.9 on a Win2K box to serve music to the mistress through a MVP. I don't dare try to retrain her.

I think the MVP's should still work with emulation mode of mvpmc on Win10.

Yep I still have one working fine here with NextPVR running off a Win10 server..... but it does need to have Martin's dongle to work properly.

Really??? My primary reason for not upgrading to NEXTPVR was because I didn't think it was compatible with the MediaMVPs.

OK, I finally got NPVR working on my PC. After several hours I finally figured out the problem was the "Controlled folder access blocker". I'm wondering if this is what caused my GBPVR to fail.

Anyway, I'm now attempting to get my MediaMVPs up and running. I followed mvallevand's Sticky from 2007 up to #3:

1. Check this thread for the recommended dongle
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=25206
2. Save the file to your GB-PVR folder typically to C:\Program Files\devnx\gbpvr\Dongle
3. Rename the file that you downloaded to mvpmc.bin
4. From the GB-PVR Config program go to the MVP tab and select mvpmc.bin and apply.

Since there is no config program with NPVR (or I don't know where to look for it) where do I go to select mvpmc.bin?

**Added - Also, do I need to load the Hauppauge MVP software?
