XMLTV Channel Number Option

Is there a channel number tag for an XML tv guide that NPVR can pick up? I've built my own scraper to build said XML file, so I would rather assign channel numbers programmatically than mess around manually assigning them in NPVR itself as I have hundreds. Thanks.

The rules kind of vary a bit depending on where the channels are coming from.

For example, if you were going to be using xmltv listings with digital channels, you would have had the channels created (with channel numbers) after a scan, ie before you'd later assigned those channels to get listings from XMLTV.

There is no groups that come from xmltv.

If you're using IPTV channels though, it does pull in group names from the m3u url when you import the channels.

Hi...you lost me there a bit...do you mean if the channels are not coming from an analogue tuner that i can assign channel numbers and categories myself in my XMLTV file?

I just mean - where the channel numbers come from depends on where you're getting your channels from. (since the setup process is slightly different for the different device types)

Are you using an analog tuner?

no i have a capture card connected to a HDMI output from my STB...

Colossus / HDPVR - if you've got multiple <display-name> tags for a channel in your xmltv file, and one of them just a number, then that'll be used as the channel number. This is the approach commonly used by xmltv files to specify a channel number, particularly in North American xmltv files.

ok, great...how about categories? is there any way to add say a 'sport' tag and have all channels with that tag appear in a sport grouping? the aim is that kodi will pick the grouping up from NPVR as the back end.

The xmltv standard doesn't include a place to supply this info. (so NextPVR doesn't look for anything like that)
