help with kodi waking server

Hi everyone i'm hoping for some pointers

I'm trying to get my NextPVR server too go too sleep when it's not needed.

heres some info about my setup

my NextPVR server is connected to a different machine running the NextPVR Client on Kodi,
my Server is running WIN10 latest version of NextPVR

Here's whats happening

if the Kodi Machine is offline the server goes too sleep and stays asleep until a recording is scheduled as expected
if Kodi Machine is online with kodi loaded (Watching media not related too NextPVR) the server goes too sleep and keeps waking itself almost instantly

this seems too be the NextPVR client on kodi forcing the server too wake

is there a way too stop the server from even going too sleep when kodi machine is on ?
is there a way too let the server sleep when the kodi machine is on and bring the server back online if someone tries too watch live TV or a recording

some hints and pointers too what's going on here apreciated

Basically you need to disable the power option on your NIC to stay awake on network activity

hi Martin thanks for the reply

I will try what you suggested i'm not sure if i can just disable that feature as i would still need the server too wake on traffic other than a magic packet like RDP ect

if i disable that would the server still wake up if someone tried too watch live or recorded stuff from within the kodi next pvr client?

do you know of any other modifications that can be made like the frequency of updates between the client and nextpvr

That's not how Kodi PVR adds work it is all or nothing with the server. There are WOL plugins that you can add to wake the server on demand. Using the xnewa addon you can force a when you start it if you want the NextPVR interface.

i love the way nextpvr works with kodi its just annoying watching my server thinking its time too sleep and then booting back up instantly also cant be good for the hardware

if i could stop the server from sleeping when kodi is online no problem but the requests between the two arnt enough too stop it from sleeping but is enough to wake it once asleep

i have changed the setting you recomended im waiting for a recording too finish so the server will sleep to test what difference that made

i used a batch script that i turned in to an .exe that pings the ip addresses of my kodi boxes if it gets a reply it uses powercfg command to change the sleep time to never once it gets no reply's from my kodi boxes it changes the the sleep setting to let the pc sleep. does a great job of stopping my server from sleeping while kodi is on

would you mind posting the script you use please i have no idea how to write that

i only need it too ping the one system

The script is not different then you have now with the network activity keeping the server awake.

Edit is probably worse because it could keep your server awake even when Kodi isn't running.

but my sever is going too sleep while kodi is on just waking up pretty much instantly

i need it too just stay on when the kodi machine is on

the network activity does not keep the server awake it only wakes the machine once already asleep

the server stays on if watching live or recorded tv or is actually recording something

i just dont want the constant sleep n wake cycle too damage the hard drives in thus server

Increase your sleep time to be greater than the polling time from Kodi.
