Sub,

Just a quick thought.

Would it be sensible to have a "Sticky" at the beginning of the NextPVR Support forum that points to the most recent patches for the current release?
As time goes by and you release various patches, it gets a bit tedious searching the forums for the updates. (easy to install an old patch or miss one completely)
You could lead with an instruction of how to apply the patches too.

Might be helpful for some of the Newbies too

Regards
Ray.

We used to have an overworked member johnsonx42 who took on the seemingly thankless task of keeping track of patches (see this thread for an example https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...arted-info of his efforts.) One snag is keeping track of what a patch is issued for - "try this to see if it fixes it", "try this, it gives more logging". and if the status changes.

edit: of course Mr Johnson is still with us, just the patch tracking went. plus not as many seem to be needed as previously. - just wait for V5 Wink

I think it's always a challenge (especially for new users) understanding which patches are relevant to the current release and avoiding the danger of applying a patch which isn't needed on the current release.

I'm sure this will become even more relevant as we head into beta for V5 Smile

That resource is sadly missed, but I understand just how complex the task is.

I don't do it anymore because there are generally very few patches these days, and the few that are created are usually to help a specific user with a specific problem. Most of the time when sub fixes a problem with a wide application, he does a point-release (i.e. NextPVR 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3). In the old days, numerous patches were required after each release to fix numerous show-stopping bugs - people couldn't live without them. Now the vast majority of users can install the current release and just go. Heck, I don't think I've even installed 4.2.3 myself.

Admittedly with the rise of IPTV and some changes sub has had to make to support a few somewhat sketchy providers, a patch or two have become necessary again for those users. That will probably settle down soon...

I'm also around a lot less these days. My interests have turned to other things, though I still use the software and obviously do come by here a few times a week.

Seems I said most of this before too... https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...ng-patches!
