Replaced Sound Card and Lost Audio

I had to replace my motherboard mounted sound because line-in stopped working. My new PCI card has VIA 1723 chip. It shows in Windows as "Envy 24 Family Audio Controller". It works fine except now NPVR has no sound on live TV or recording playback. If I play an NPVR recording in VLC, it DOES have sound. I have a Hauppauge Colossus. The Hauppauge "WinTV8" app and "Hauppauge Capture" both have sound with no issues. I'm using SPDIF to NPVR for sound. I've fiddled with decoders in NPVR but no dice. My old settings worked with the previous sound "card" (Realtek). I don't think I did anything else that should affect sound. Windows 10 Pro 1809, NPVR 4.2.4 (190307). One other thing: I have an Nvidia based video card connected to a TV. If I select the "NVIDA High Definition Audio" for playback, then I get sound from NPVR. Seems there's possibly some issue with this sound card, but only with NPVR. Any ideas?

OK, I seem to have stumbled onto a fix for this. Control Panel>Sound>Speakers>Properties>Advanced Tab. There was a box checked that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". I unchecked it. It gave me some warning about continuing may cause an application to stop working. I said do it. I then clicked OK and it gave me the same warning. I said do it. After this, I have sound in NPVR. I don't know how this got checked, unless is was part of the sound card driver install. At any rate, NPVR now seems to have sound. I'm a bit mystified as to why only NPVR seemed to have trouble because of this. I'm hoping I haven't broken something else!

it's not npvr having trouble with this, its some other app taking control of your sound card and not letting npvr use it because of that setting.
i have that setting on all the time, no problems cuz i don't have any other apps trying to take exclusive control of it.
anyways, you should be fine with that setting, but it's caused by some other badly behaving program. [screen readers, game chat programs, etc]

Agreed. If I open "volume mixer" (right click the speaker icon), it shows 3 things: "system sounds", the sound card's line-in port, and Mozilla Thunderbird. I can test by stopping thunderbird, probably turning off playback on line in. Can't do much with system sounds. I just haven't gotten around to it since I got it working.

I'm pretty sure this problem is caused by the sound card driver itself. I did not have this issue with the built-in Realtek sound, and the exclusive use WAS checked. Same Colossus, same NPVR. Can't thing of any unusual installs that I did. This is not any sort of major issue since unchecking the box got NPVR working.
