It's definitely worth trying HLS source streams if your IPTV provider has them available. This type of stream does not rely on a long lived connection. Instead it is continuously downloading small files. If the connection goes down for a short time, it can just resume exactly where it left off at the next file, with no lost content.

That said, I've certainly seen IPTV Providers stuff this up too, and have missing files etc. Ultimately you'll have to try it with your provider to see if they're better or not.

NextPVR can directly handle .ts and .m3u8 (hls) streams. Other types of streams, like rtmp, it'll use ffmpeg to download the stream.

They do support HLS & will definitely give it a try. Thanks again Sub for taking the time to explain the practical options. Really appreciate your support!

Tried HLS and NextPvr won't record it or play it live. GseIptv will play live it but buffers often. So not sure if it's the provider server's implementation of HLS or NextPvr's ability to record HLS. So gave up on that option for now as I don't have the resources to determine which is the problem.

But back to the original question in this thread about record re-attempts, I did log a failed recording. You mentioned that if a recording failed that NextPvr would re-attempt to connect and, if successful, would append onto the initial ts file. Reviewing the log file, snip shown below, I don't see that it ever tries to reconnect for the remaining duration of the record session (1 hour in this case).  It failed due to a bad gateway but I was able to watch it live a few minutes later in the scheduled hour. So I know the stream was not down for long. If you want to review the log I can provide it.  I really would like to see NextPvr re-attempt as you suggest it should.  I should mention I had TvMosaic server was recording in parallel with NextPvr and it recorded the program in full with no problem.  I used 2 of a 4 connection limit from Beast to do this.  Look forward to hearing from you Sub when you return.

I don't think that it is NextPVR's responsibility to deal with service from crappy IPTV providers. Perhaps the new feature to find alternate recordings for the same show on failure will work for your you if you have multiple providers and time zones available.

I agree Martin but I should mention TvMosaic server was recording in parallel with NextPvr and TvMosaic recorded the program in full with no problem.  I used 2 of a 4 connection limit from Beast to do this.

Martin, do you know of any good IPTV providers? I don't find that, for example, Sling offers m3u connections. Have to use their app so can't integrate with other uses.

Who knows, If TVMosaic received the 502 upstream error first perhaps NextPVR would have recorded fine?  A second chance attempt on a 502 might be worthwhile but in your case you said it was minutes later and NextPVR should not be trying that long.

I said I checked minutes later but it may have only been a few seconds. How long should NextPvr try. The log say it tried 0 times, thats a long way from "a long time".

I guess I am a geek but the 502 error and most errors you get from a provider will be because of excess load. It doesn't make sense to immediately retry in these situations. I guess that sub could add a feature like call return that waits a while and retries but that doesn't work for live tv. Complain to your provider to solve the issue and not mask it is better.
