Then you need to use PathSubstitution in your advancedsettings to map from D:\GBPVRLiveTVBuffer\ to \\servername\GBPVRLiveTVBuffer\ (of course use your servername and the share name you used when you shared the folder).
Hmmm. I did try that but still get the same effect.

Where is your kodi debug log from a test after you set up the share and substitution?

Hi Brett - here. I go into the show which is playing live, catch up within about 20~30 secs watch a wee bit then it carks out?

cheers k.

EDIT - there are a lot of ffmpeg errors, do I need to update ffmpeg in NextPVR or Kidi (18.4)?
It looks like the file is being opened via SMB not HTTP streaming:
Code:
2019-10-13 13:42:27.912 T:5665   DEBUG: CSMBFile::Open - opened smb://USER:PASSWORD@192.168.1.10/GBPVRVids/Rugby World Cup 2019 E38 ]/Rugby World Cup 2019 E38 ]_20191013_13301600.ts, fd=10000

The "]" character at the end of the show title for both the path and filename looks odd to me, but it seems to be working ok on that part.

I'm confused about why ffmpeg is being called. I don't see that on my RPis. Maybe your device isn't able to play the native stream (H.264 with AAC audio).  And maybe ffmpeg in this case doesn't like growing files? I'm not sure. This is getting beyond my knowledge. Sorry.

No problem Brett thanks for trying! It's way beyond me... ! I am running this on my Android TV on which I have Kodi (I do have a Pi but am not running from there yet ... next challenge).

That Kodi log looks like you now are using the share. Kodi uses an ffmpeg engine and so you get ffmpeg messages which you can typically ignore. Assuming your are using the h/w player in your TV how it responds to growing files will vary it is not just a Kodi issue.

The PVR addon supports growing files in a more controlled way, knewc just tell the player to play.

Thanks Martin,

A few Q's

  1. I looked at the directory on the server where the share has the liveTV Buffer and did not see a file growing at all; should I see this and is this the file that should be growing to assist this jumping out issue (which persists)?
  2. I tried, in the knewc 2.7.4 settings to use Timeshift bumping 4000 to 5000 (both) - is this the correct location to improve the buffering/timeshift behaviour? I am after stability first and foremost, I can live with it jumping out if I am hammering jumps and forwards, but when it is just playing and jumps out it is irksome.
  3. I am not sure how to check the Android TV H/W Player is playing, I assume this is automatic and no on/off is required?
  4. I also tried to install NPVR Addon 3.3.1.5 (does it have better LiveTV Timeshift handling?) it downloaded but I got an error message that it could not be loaded so the run button was not working. I will need to supply you some logs for this but should I first be uninstalling knewc 2.7.4 or can they coexist?
  5. I am seeing positive things on v5 for streaming/transcoding; is it worth trying this as the server instead to solve this issue?

Thanks

k.

1. You are confusing questions on playing recordings and live tv so you are losing me in this thread.
2. Timeshft in knewc is something I was playing with while NextPVR addon sucked for timeshifting. Play with the values however you like. Now v5 doesn't support it so I guess I will wait and see when hockey starts and I need it again. I might
3. Kodi has ways to configure Android but you probably don't want to turn off hw decoding. I have never read any good reviews of the built innSony Android TV
4. I answered you in knewc question already in the Kodi forum.

Apologies Martin,

  1. For (1) you are correct let me clarify, the shows I am watching actually starts (a scheduled) recording (as I may want to watch them again later) and I watch it live as well, and try to catch up just enough so that it is 15~20 or so seconds behind. It never fiully catches up or it jumps out, but it jumps out anyway even 30 secs or a minute behind. My understanding is that the ability to stop and catch up (and even go back) is Timeshifting.
  2. OK. I was just asking if these were the correct figures ot play with to solve this issue, that's all.
  3. OK. I will look for that option if it exists.
  4. OK, thanks Martin will look in that forum.
Cheers

k.

I never heard the term timeshifting until Kodi because MythTV and GBPVR and others I tried just called it live TV and I assumed a PVR could navigate and pause live TV although GBPVR did have a pass through mode alternative that I never considered. Anything you read about timeshifting now will be live tv.

In progress recording playback is related but different and won't use any timeshifting settings. I find it works for me with a share and in the PVR addon mode so it is good where it is weak is when sports goes into overtime which is why nextend is so important not me.

Hi Martin,

Well I have both addon installed and configured as suggested in another thread, and when I watch LiveTV (i.e. without recording) it runs fine. If I select record, then try to play (or resume) the recording it always jumps out again.

The logs should show I have done exactly this (a) A LiveTV Trial and then (b) Record show and watch it immediately (I hope they do I had to upload it twice), it might have run on a bit at the end.

https://paste.kodi.tv/pivigifabe

btw I looked at the Directory that the server settings designates as the buffer but cannot see any buffer grow I am not sure if this has anything to do with it.

The kodi logs look like a knewc session with no pvr.nextpvr log messages at all not even failing to load. You need to play the file in the pvr addon. Also you cannot play immediately you have to wait until the file is bigger than any buffer so perhaps 30 to 60 seconds.

Martin I can run it again but the point is exactly that I am running a knewc session because that is what I use as my front end to watch TV and shows regardless of whether live or recorded or watching in process recordings. I was given to understand the PVR Addon runs in the background so I am now totally baffled as to what I need to do to get the logs you need please?
