I already have a Dazzle DVC 150 (external USB video capture card) and although it sucks for capturing video for editing and post production purposes, I think I could put it to good use for PVR purposes. I saw the list of compatible video cards but I'd rather not have to buy a new one if I can use the Dazzle. Please let me know if this is supported with GB-PVR! Thanks, looking forward to getting my GB-PVR up and running!

ps - I attached a pic of the Dazzle just in case, for reference

No, unfortunately this device isnt supported by GB-PVR. If you're lucky you might be able to get it working with this plugin http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=2753

Hi thanks for the quick response...there are a lot of plugins, which one would work? whichever corresponds to tv capture card model? If thats the case, I don't see one that would work =(. If I purchase a new card, which would be the cheapest that is supported by GB-PVR? Thanks

The only plugin that may help you is found here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=2753. It is a user developed plugin allows software encoder device to work. Results seem a hit or miss though, as there is a wide range of different hardware out their.

I dont know about prices, but your best bet is probably a Hauppauge PVR150 or ATI 550 Pro.

ok so i'd consider getting this pv150 card but i'm not seeing that it has video out...i want to be able to go cable in to the computer, record the video, and have the image go back out on to tv. all i'm seeing is vga outputs on most of these cards...is it intended that video only be viewable on a monitor or is a output to tv possible? thanks

Most people use the tv out features of their regular graphics card to connect to the TV.

Or if you have your PC on the third floor and your TV on the 2nd, you can do what many others do and use one of (the many) other great features of GBPVR and buy a mediaMPV (see the MPV forum) which will allow you to have a nice SMALL QUIET box next to the TV, which you can operate with a remote, sending signals back to the PC to control the playback etc. The connection is ethernet, wired or if you have a wireless router and a wireless bridge, it can also be wireless.

See http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/MVP for more info.

Do read about the limitations of the device first though, it does OK with MPEG2, but DivX (MPEG4) is another story. There is also a smallish lag (PC dependent, but not too bad) in channel changing esp. with LiveTV.

Cheers

k.
