If you can't turn off mediacodec don't worry it was an long shot anyway.

Cheers. Note that the play key was NOT used in the log you've seen. The sequence is: start playing, e.g. from Channels, wait a bit, then Pause, wait for time to pass, skip-forward. That's enough to bomb Kodi. If I Play before the skip-forward, it doesn't bomb.

NB: The Player hardware settings I disabled both had Mediacodec in their labels so I think what I tested  was correct. Made no difference to the misbehaviour.

Skipping wihout play won't start playback though so what's the point.

Three reasons really:
1) Muscle memory -  I do it a lot in recorded material to skip commercials and the like (I use ComSkip but it doesn't catch everything). Sometimes I do it while in pause and I can see where I ended up, which is fine.

2) Muscle memory - if something is learned, and done, it should "just work", consistently. And especially, it shouldn't break the system.

3) It's actually a bit useful. If I'm playing Live TV and commercials happen, I normally hit pause and go do something. When I come back I skip until the rough end of the commercials then hit play. I sometimes don't hit play first because that means seeing a bit of commercial (with the accompanying random soundtrack, which I detest).

It's not that I often do it that way - with recorded stuff in particular I'm far more often skipping while playing, and that's always fine with v5, as far as I have seen, including in Live TV. But it helps when the behaviour is consistent, whether or not the playback is paused. And #2 above of course.

If you seek while paused in live TV the stream is still closed so there is nothing that can be displayed. I will check for any issues with the close that Kodi is issuing though, I didn't consider close while paused logic

Yes, I wondered if I was describing that correctly - for Live TV I don't see content of course, I just see the increments being reported. I guess it comes down to: if it doesn't bomb Kodi, nobody would have anything to be bothered about.

Good luck with the hunting!

I have no idea what increments you are talking about.

"Seeking +00:10" (or whatever amount depending on how many times skip is pressed), and a subsequent change in the current timestamp.

Thanks. The issue I will persue is focused on the stop that Kodi is sending after the seek fails which might explain a crash. I will play around with skip in pause for the Matrix update. It is not trivial since NextPVR is not guaranteed to provide data after a long pause.

I was able to duplicate the problem on Windows so it had nothing to do with mediacodec and to avoid to the crash I had to enable seeking. Could you download the Kodi test build from here https://jenkins.kodi.tv/blue/organizatio.../artifacts I assume it is aarch64 and see if that fixes the problem.

It actually wasn't a hard change but as always seems to be the case, the Kodi team changed the build process from the v3.318 build.

To help out in testing could you try some long pauses (longer than the live tv buffer you have configured in setup) to see how they works.

Good luck
