Configure/rename recording file name?

Hello,

I am looking for options for changing the recording file name.

My problem is currently some of the shows have really long names, like:

    .../Recordings/Shakespeare & Hathaway -- Private Investigators/
        Shakespeare & Hathaway -- Private Investigators.S02E09.The Envious Court.ts

I access the files via a share drive, and all I see is a directory full of the same files, with the episode info off the screen. Since I have the show name in the directory I don't need it repeated in the file name too, at least not first.

I don't mind changing the file name in the post-processing script, but then I am not sure how NextPVR DB will know where to find the renamed file.

Is there some way to configure the file name used? Or failing that, some way to let NextPVR know the new name of the file?

That is the traditional naming convention for Kodi, Plex, Emby, downloads etc and it makes sense for sub to follow it. There are users who do post-processing to change the filename and some database update scripts have been posted. It won't solve the problem for long episode names.

Good to know! Are you saying if I go ahead with a rename/db-script approach that Kodi/etc may not be able to find my recordings?

No Kodi has a pretty smart regex https://kodi.wiki/view/Naming_video_files/TV_shows and name is optional but it is the most common format. You could have problems with non episodic shows and movies if you aren't careful with your script

Most of the time I prefer just browsing the file share, but Kodi is my fallback. I will consider just learning to live with long file names.

There are some settingw which can be used to tweak the filename a little (like unticking that "Use S01E01 file naming format if possible" checkbox), but since the show name is "Shakespeare & Hathaway -- Private Investigators", you're still ultimately gonna end up with a really long file name.
