Hello,  I am a newb to nextpvr.  I have discovered that with epg123 and schedules direct that I can now record on my updated win10 pc.  I am using an HDHR3CC.  I subscribe to one premium channel.  This channel appears to be impossible to update to the nextpvr menu although it appears in the epg123 list.  Am I doing this wrong, or can this not be achieved at all?  By the way, so far, the learning curve for Nextpvr is wonderful.  I am enjoying it but would like to be able to record my paid premium channel.  Thanks,  JIM   Huh

Unfortunately NextPVR doesn't support any DRM channels via CableCard the license is too high.. The only way to capture these would be through an analog device like the Hauppauge HDPVR

Thanks for the reply Martin.  That is interesting. Since the Hauppauge is not a tuner, do you know exactly how a guide listing with the premium channel be found and set to record?  Since the Hauppauge and the HDHomerun would both be connected to the pc, then how else does it all come together?  JIM

You need a cable or satellite STB as a sourse and then capture video and audio from component, HDMI or composite. Using the guide data from Schedules Direct you map these to channels in NextPVR. You also a configure a channel changer application to tune your STB. I use firewire and IR to do this but boxes can use IP.

Basically you can connect a set top box to the HDPVR2/Colossus2 type device, using HDMI (possibly via an HDMI splitter if you need to remove HDCP content protection). In NextPVR you can import the list of channels it'll receive from the device, using a Schedules Direct or XMLTV list, and you get to specify an IR Blaster executable, which will be used when NextPVR needs to change channels. The is an IR Blaster included in these HDPVR2/Colossus2 devices. This enables NextPVR to change channels on the set top box.

In NextPVR's TV guide it'll look just like any other channel, with TV listings etc, and the same types of options for recording etc.

Let me see how I understand. My source would be cable, my hdhr3-cc.  Can I use the hdhr3-cc, alone, as my STB?  A video capture, Hauppauge hd pvr 2, would be connected to the pc.  Then NextPVR will discover an additional device to be mapped.  I believe now I should see a complete list of channels in the NextPVR channel guide.  Have I followed thru correctly?   JIM

No, your hdhr3-cc isn't a set top box. You need to use a set top box that your cable company supplied. It outputs HDMI, like it normally would to a TV, but instead it's connected to your HDPVR2/Colossus2.

This just dawned on me.  So, with the Colossus connected to the STB, and then the Colossus also connected to my pc, i would not have a need for the hdhr3-cc?  Is this correct?
