I am noticing that NextPVR v5 takes an extremely long time to launch on system start, over 90 seconds to go green in the system tray. This upsets my Kodi that also launches on system start because it cannot connect to the NextPVR backend so I have to wait until it's available and then restart Kodi. A complete fail for what's supposed to be a solid DVR/media center appliance.

Intel NUC10i7FNH with Windows 10 Pro and HDHomerun Prime as my cable tuner. This is a new computer for my HTPC itch. I installed NextPVR v5 fresh on the new system. It had little trouble finding the HDHomerun and setting up the channels and EPG. I also have the "keep digital tuners primed" checkbox enabled. I checked firewall settings, all is fine there; once the tray goes green then I can connect with the NextPVR client or the Kodi app and view live TV. Just not before.

My workhorse HTPC of over 3 years (Intel NUC5i5RYH) has NextPVR 4 and no issues starting up quickly with the system. I am tempted to remove NextPVR v5 and install v4 if I can't figure out why v5 is taking so long to go green.

Any ideas?

Change the NextPVR service Startup Type to Automatic from Delayed Start and it should be the same as v4.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did notice the Delayed Start and changed that as part of the investigation. There was no change in behavior, it still took about two minutes to go green.
I also saw that thread you mentioned, doesn't seem to help.

I think I will tweak some of the other apps that are starting, set them to delayed so that they are more inclined to start up after NextPVR.

For us to really help you need to post your logs we'd be able to see the slowdown. The tray app is not a good indicator for timing.

Well now. For some inexplicable reason the NextPVR service had changed itself back to delayed start. I changed it again to Automatic and verified that it stuck, and restarted the system. The backend came up almost immediately. All good now. Thanks for the help!

I was also having to wait for two minutes for the NextPVR service to start and the above change fixed it. Is there a risk to doing this? Did the NextPVR v5 installer choose delayed start for a reason.

Yes the risk is that devices (eg. tuners, network and USB) won't be available when NextPVR starts. You can mitigate that a bit by turning off the option to scan devices at start up, otherwise NextPVR will disable them as not found and recordings could fail.
