If a show isn't uniquely identified, then it's assumed to be a different episode. ie, if you tell it to record 'Friends' on 'All Channels', and there is two episodes airing at 4:30, and they're not identified any further than that, then it'll try to record both. If those episodes where identified, say both as season 6 episode 11, then it'll know they're the same episode and only try to record one of them.

In summary, it sounds like NextPVR is behaving correctly, and already doing the best it can based on the info available in your EPG.

It just comes down to your poor guide data. If you had good guide data it'd behave the way you're hoping.

Ultimately NextPVR has to make an assumption when the guide data is not detailed. NextPVR prefers to schedule a recording if it doesn't know a show is a repeat, so that recordings aren't missed.

Think about that example I gave with the show Friends. If you tell it to record 'Friends' on 'All Channels', and there is two episodes airing at 4:30, and they're not identified any further than that, then it'll try to record both. If those episodes where identified, say both as season 6 episode 11, then it'll know they're the same episode and only try to record one of them.

It's common in the states for multiple episodes of the same show to be airing at the same time, particularly with syndicated shows, and NextPVR is having to assume that's the case in your example because the guide data does not tell it otherwise.

With your setup, you're probably better of scheduling recordings on specific channels rather than 'all channels'.

When I downloaded his database I noticed that Friends and The Big Bang Theory (which I use for EPG comparison) did have different episode descriptions and details was actually quite detailed.

It can only depend on the crid, unique id, or season/episode numbers to identify a specific show. Fields like subtitle/description are not reliable for this purpose. (sure you could find some examples for some shows on some channels for some subset of users where it would be good enough, but it's not universally reliable, so the app can't use it for this purpose)

I was responding to the comment about "poor" data. Ultimately it goes back to my original comment that we both agree on All Channels is often not the best choice.
