All;

What is a good choice if I want both Windows 10 Support and Linux support for a ClearQAM Silicon Dust tuner with NextPVR?   I use a Hauppauge 950Q right now, and it works okay in Windows 10 and not very well in Linux.   I'd like to upgrade to a model with 2 or more tuners and supports both OS's, as I'd like to play around with which OS I choose.    I'm considering the HDHR3-CC.     What say the experts?

Not really answering your question but HDHR tuners may be easier to set up in NextPVR but it doesn't mean they have better tuners. Perhaps you added a split for linux testing? Whether it is linux or Windows, the firmware that does the actual h/w capture is typically the same (for supported devices). My experience is clear QAM needs a strong signal so maybe remove any splits to see if things improve for you.

The HDHR3-CC is the Prime, which is for CableCard.  You can use it without a CableCard to get QAM, but if you really use Clear QAM, you can get an HDHR Connect.  Why pay for CableCard support if you won't use it?
Tuners: SD HDHR Prime (HDHR3-CC). SD HDHR Connect Quatro Tuner (HDHR5-4US) - only QAM.  EXVIST H.265 Encoder - capturing cable box.
Client: Odroid-N2 running knewc on KODI - connected via MoCA.
EPG: SchedulesDirect
Provider: Verizon Fios
Server: Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 10

Possibly for future investment protection? These days, it is becoming quite rare for cable companies in the US to still be providing clear QAM. The original poster didn't tell us where the clear QAM signal is coming form (unless I missed it). But if it is a cable company (rather than a condo/apartment generated cable or something similar), I'd guess it is very likely to get changed from clear QAM in the near future. Having the Prime model would then allow the OP to simply get a CableCard and keep using the same HDHR rather than having to get a new tuner then.

The one trick with the HDHR3-CC is that it isn't available anymore (and least not in the US, and I don't think any other country uses CableCards).  You'll have to look on eBay or Amazon for one used (or somehow grey market new), and they tend to be even more expensive now than when the came out.  SiliconDust's replacement device, the HomeRun Prime 6, has been in development for over 2 years, and the last status update from the company on it was on February 19, 2019.  That doesn't instill much confidence in them ever shipping it.

Thanks for that link.  It's kind of funny that they've posted nothing to the official sticky status thread for the Prime 6 update.
