timer doesn't start if already watching channel live

I am using latest Nextpvr v 5 with very latest Kodi and am seeing that if i set a timer for a recording and then watch the channel live just before the timer is due to start, the timer does not engage and the recording is not started. The moment i stop watching live then the timer kicks in. In a similar way, if i try to watch a channel that has a recording in progress and 'switch' to that channel, the recording is terminated at that point. I have time shift set on the system. Have i missed something in the setup or is it not possible to record a channel at the same time as watching it?

i think i have answered my own question. Although at the time of watching, the guide did not show the recording in progress and there was nothing under recordings, this may have been a delay in the interface between Kodi and Nextpvr as the file is in fact present having restarted Kodi. I have noticed before that the latest status of recording is not always visible in Kodi. The refresh rate in Kodi is set to 15mins for the guide but does that also update the recordings status and if not, what do you have to do to get the latest other than restart Kodi?

Having a guide update every 15 minutes is wrong in almost all cases you necessarily overwork Kodi, the network and NextPVR. Assuming you have a daily EPG update once a day with the default setting is actually too much.

The most likely reason you are not seeing the notification is that I don't poll the backend during playback. If you set the timer, waited about 5 or 10 seconds you'd get the notification. If not debug Kodi logs in the Kodi sub forum down below this one are required.

thanks for such prompt response. I will make those changes. I also saw that the button was set to not allow updates during playback (which i just removed) but i had assumed that was for guide updates only but would it in fact also stop any sort of polling of the backend which would include updates on recording status?

The PVR setting is for PVR backend calls to the database. On top of the that NextPVR polls every 2.5 seconds so it is much more responsive and that is disabled independently from the gui
