Currently NextPVR for Linux can installed using the .deb installer witch is super easy. I was wondering though if NextPVR will be added to some repository so that it could be installed and maintained via a package manager that comes with many Linux distros?

For example https://www.deb-multimedia.org repository has Kodi 18.9 and kodi.pvr.nextpvr, mythtv-backend, etc. listed and can be installed or removed via the package manager in my distro (MX-Linux). Jellyfin and Emby have their own repository so the repo URL is easily added with a script or even the package manager (like Synaptic Package Manager).

Thanks.

It is not something I am interested in managing since the deb installer takes zero effort on my part, I might not need to make a change until sub goes to netcore 5. I suggest just leaving the .deb file in your home folder.

Anyone is free to do this though remembering that the repos are by linux distro, you will will need to create a different instance for all versions of the distro, and you will need to document how to add a new source list to the package manager.

Ok. I didn't know how much work that would be.

I still have the .deb file in my home dir. I created a simple launcher on my Linux desktop to run a bash script to update NextPVR. When sub releases the next build, I just click the launcher and NextPVR updates, kind of like the Windows installer does.

I was thinking repos for just the Debian based distros. I thought they would be all the same except maybe for Ubuntu.

Typically these repos are for open source projects where they need to build the source using the distro libraries against the different libraries. I don't think the IT world has fully figured out what to do with multi platform netcore yet. Even on Windows NextPVR, Emby and Jellyfin all install a full netcore environment rather then using the common library because good models for installing safely doesn't existing.
