Hello,

According to what I have read on the wiki (thanks for that, it is really of help!), I understood that the merge function helps to merge under a single channel number different istances of the same channel that can be found on different frequencies. Is that right?
I was wondering if there is some kind of function that can help me to manage the case reported hereafter in which, after a scan, I have under the same channel number two completely different and independent channels (i.e. different frequencies):

Is this something that can happen or I have made some mistake somewhere? Should I go one-by-one deleting the chanel I don't need or there is a way to avoid this during the scan itself? Hope you can help me in providing guidance on how to manage this case.

Thanks a lot in advance for any feedback!

Cheers,

Alex

The image did not attach ... Try dragging and dropping the image file to the area below the post that says ... Drop files here to upload

There is no specific process in NextPVR to deal with the two differemt channels having the same channel number ... NextPVR is using the channel number that it received during the scan.

Attach logs to a post telling us the time that you did the scan so that we know where to look in the logs ... https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/get-help ... Thanks.

Hi Graham

Thanks a lot for your prompt answer!

I don't know which could be the issue since I see the image properly displayed inside the post (and the drag-and-drop doesn't work on my browser at the moment... Undecided ). The link to imgur is this one.

For the log, I will try to post it during this week as soon as I will access to my media center.

Thanks a lot again!

After a recent disaster with NextPVR I would never attempt an automatic merge of different device again. I had to remove and reinstall every merged tuner to get a working system.

I feel it is pretty much only from very similar devices.

Hello!

So, I had time to make a clean rescan and catch the log file. The situation seems to be better than the last time, so I guess it is something due to the frequency/channel allocation of the boradcaster (that in the last period is changing on day-by-day basis!); but if you can give a look to the log, I think it would be anyway useful.

The steps I made are the following:
  • Channel list is clean
  • Performed a scan (starting time 16:21) on the tuner #1 using "All frequency/All country" (if I use the exact area, i.e. Piedmont/Turin, only few channels are found)
  • After the scan, I have just removed all the radio channels
  • Attached you can find two screenshots reporting the cases of "same number, same channel" and "same number, different channels"
So:
  • For the first one (file screen1.jpg) I guess is sufficient to use the "Auto merge" function, but which is the result for example between Rete 4 and Rete 4 HD (they are different since one is in SD and the other in HD)?
  • For the second (file screen2.jpg) I have to remove manually the wrong channels (for example I know that number 47 corresponds to Super! and not Rai Storia); may be you can now understand why this is happening and provide suggestions on how to manage it (in case the issue is on several channels, it might become not so straight forward to delete manually all the affected entries).
Thanks a lot for your help and have a great start of the week!

Alex

Sorry ... The logs neeed to be looked at by someone that knows more about this than I do.

You can work around the problem by changing the channel numbers at ... NextPVR Web APP -> Settings -> Channels -> Spanner ... Change the channel number and ... Save

Thanks Graham for your answer. Who would you suggest to contact for this? Again, I think that is an issue not depending on NexPVR itself, but it would be great to understand something more about.

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion above! Smile

Knowing you can't use auto merge what is the actual issue you would like sub to address?

It appears that the broadcast streams contain the same channel number for each of two channels ... something like Mux 1 Channel ABCD = channel number 5 and Mux 2 Channel WXYZ also = channel number 5 ... but I don't get the stuff in the logs well enough to be sure.

I suspect that there is not really anything that Sub (the author of NextPVR) can do if the data in the broadcast stream is messed up.

Hi Martin,

The point was just to rise the issue that after a scan there were different channels having the same number (I'm not referring to SD and HD versions of the same channel, but to two completely different channels, i.e. from two different broadcasters). So it was to understand if this issue was related to the scan procedure of NextPVR (it seems NOT the case) and how I can manage it (e.g. change the channel number of one of the twos or direclty deleting the wrong channel; this can became quite difficult if there are a lot of channels with this issue).

Hope I have clarified better the point of opening this thread.

Thanks Smile

- - - Edit - - -

Mmmmmm...even the case of the same channel in SD and HD (such as Rete 4 and Rete 4 HD) having the same number could be an issue? Would be this one solved by Auto merge? Or is Auto merge useful only for dual tuners? Sorry if questions came to my mind step by step... Smile
