Transcode Recordings?

Went on trip recently and stayed in a hotel with somewhat decent wifi.  Brought my chromecast with google tv and was able to connect to my home nextpvr pc through a wireguard vpn connection.  Device was using the new matrix release.  Tried the transcode option for live tv and it worked great.  Then tried to watch some recordings but there was constant buffering.  Didn't appear to be transcoding. 

Any plans to add this feature in the future for recordings?  Or should I just go through a browser.  It's kind of a niche scenario but would be nice to go through kodi instead of a browser.

As you found the transcoding option is for live tv only. Because of the non linear way people watch recordings skip, resume etc I didn't bother implementing transcoding and have no plans to do that. What I did do is ask sub to change the download API option used in the browser to include a transcode parameter and Kodi could download a transcoded file and then play it from the cache.

If sub does implement that I will revisit recordings but for your use case it will have limited appeal since you would need to add a hub and USB storage. You might consider using the post recording transcoding option that NextPVR has if this is something you do regularly.

Sounds good. Really not an issue as I travel very infrequently. As you say probably not even worth it if sub added the api due to needing a usb hub and stick. The official app could do it but is still pretty broken for android tv.

Yes sub's app is probably geared more to the browser based seek then the Kodi recording API. Thinking about it I might even have implemented it in knewc too without skip.
