Which issue do you want sub to look at, the override of the user-agent or the likely incorrect URL you are using for the news?

Trying it in the debugger I found that extra headers, like |User-Agent=...., were stripped off when following redirects, which is why it wasn't working here.

I'd suggest just going Martin's that ffmpeg extra xml route for now.
I've spent a bit of time making sure the |User-Agent= gets passed on when redirecting, so I'm past that, but there is something else going wrong later in the process, which I haven't got to the bottom of.
