I have a problem where a few of my NPVR scheduled recordings fail with a “[Failed: Channel not found. Deleted?]” message.  When I see the message the next day, I can always successfully watch the channel that NPVR says may be deleted.  A screenshot is attached.  I need help figuring out how to debug this.  My setup:
  • Windows 11 with all current patches, and set to never go to sleep.
  • Two HDHomeRun PRIME devices (HDHR3-CC) giving me a total of six available tuners.  The tuner’s software and firmware are current.  HDHomeRun device IDs 1323E608 and 1323DBEC.  I’m also including the log from the PRIME devices for May 6-8.  I've also verified that occasional-problem channels are on both of my PRIME devices
  • NextPVR Version: 5.2.7.220410

If NextPVR has a problem with a channel, will it try again with the next tuner listed on the SetupBig Grinevices page?

I don’t know if this is a software, hardware, or CableCard/cable TV issue. Please help me debug this.

Wayne

First I would check the HDHR device via its web page to see if those premium channels are still available or if they have moved.

My four failures starting 2:30 AM this morning were all on FX HD.  NPVR last successfully recorded FX HD on May 5 on channel 536.  I just now successfully streamed 536 on both my HDHomeRun PRIME devices, so both my PRIME devices say 536 is running as expected.  Using the NextPVR TV Guide, I can also successfully watch 536 right now.  My cableTV provider says FX HD is on 536 and hasn't changed for a long time.

If one of my PRIME devices is flaky, how do I determine which one NPVR tried and failed with?  As far as I can tell, neither are showing errors.

At some stage you had your channels setup, and they were working. "FX HD" had a channel id something like "1234". You scheduled a recurring recording on "1234". All was good.

At some later stage, you deleted your channels, and rescanned. In your newly scanned channels, you still have a "FX HD" but it's assigned a new channel id something like "2345". That channel is just fine, and watchable. You can schedule new recordings etc.

However, your old recording is looking for channel "1234", and can't find it because it was deleted...so gives you this "failed: channel not found. deleted?" error.

To fix, delete your recurring recording that has been failing, and recreate it. The new one would be on the existing "2345" and will work.

I've been meaning to put some login into NextPVR to look for a new channel of same name if the old channel no longer exists.

A few days ago, I assumed my problem was that I didn't have my two HDHomeRun PRIME devices configured the same, so I cleaned up two discrepancies, then deleted and re-added the tuners to NPVR. It never dawned on me that they would be re-added with new IDs. Armed with that info, I started snooping in your SQLite database. In table=SCHEDULED_RECORDING, all unrecorded shows that were also in table=RECURRING_RECORDING got their channel_oid value fixed by your software, so they still record correctly. The five failures that are in the screenshot I uploaded were all single Quick Records, had no values in RECURRING_RECORDING, and didn't record because channel_oid had the old oid, not the new one. I don't think I have any more single, non-recurring recordings.

Looking in table=RECURRING_RECORDING, the XML in the match_rules column still has wrong values in <ChannelOID>. ***Will that cause a problem as NPVR automatically puts new entries in the SCHEDULED_RECORDING table over the next few weeks?*** I really don't want to have to delete and re-add my 89 recurring recording definitions. My expertise is with Microsoft t-SQL, so I could not figure out how to write the sqlite sql to update the <ChannelOID> values myself.

I am pretty sure Kodi allows you to change the channel on your recordings via the API. You typically will know the bad ones because they won't have a channel icon.
