pluto tv recordings just space travel thing and not completing

ok so then that explains all my issues, and yeah i was using the web app because thats where the main settings are now and ive been jumping back and forth. I just went into using this plugin and assumed it would work just the same as my atsc stuff did. What sort of post processing is being done with these? and will it convert and then stay in npvr?

By default there is no post processing but NextPVR has built in post recording transcoding option settings in the web browser. You are free to experiment with these and your own options via postprocessing.bat.

Because of poor guide data and bad recording for me PlutoTV isn't worth the trouble which is way I abandoned it. Hopefully this thread will serve as a warning to others.

Yes ive abandoned this myself numerous times and it wouldnt be necessary if pbr would just put things on vod like normal content providers do. Why they air something live and then wait months for ondemand if at all boggles my mind. Why theyve attempted to put live sports on a basically vod only platform is also confusing and clearly it does not work well.

I also just tried the desktop app since you mentioend a difference and i can skip just fine there, the web app wont and why vlc wont either is wierd. Kodi also behaves more like the web app so im probably going to have to look into the post processing route. Hopefully the auto transcode stuff works, im testing that now.

You aren't focusing on the problem then, stick with getting PBR working and you will save yourself some grief. It is not a VOD issue either since you said it yourself it is a "Live" sports station. Thias by nature would indicate you can't skip, since you are introducing timeshifting via NextPVR in theory no broadcaster needs to support this.

I think you arent fully understanding my issues and thats my fault because i dont usually explain things well. PBR works just fine, all the live tv parts of pluto do. Also pbr doesnt appear to be any different than any other channel ive tried and my issue was with how im using the recordings. I wish i had tried my first attempts in the desktop app instead, i probably would never have opened this thread since they work fine there it appears.

As far as skipping, im talking about clicking on a point in the playback of the recorded video or in kodi doing the shortcuts to skip or jump a few seconds or minutes. Its just a recorded video and playback should be able to start from any point and it does in the desktop npvr app. It just wont from any other program including the npvr web app and npvr kodi addon. I know what timeshifting is for live tv and thats not what im trying to do because im watching recordings not live tv.

Anyway i think im past my problems and have learned how to use this plugin better. Ive got the guide updates fixed and i just need to figure out the post processing and how to do that while keeping the recordings working form npvr so i can view then and pause, resume, skip from kodi. Thanks for the help.

I do understand your problem, I am surprised that PBR is working for your live since it doesn't work for me here.

In any case recording PlutoTV streams are not just a recorded files, they are recorded streams which are often just a bunch of smaller recordings stitched together and no application could skip in them without indexing. These breaks can be program or commercials. Some of those Pluto splashes are inserted too, so the timestamps before and after are "correct' but they ignore the fact that there could be 3 minutes of air time in between. Post processing will need to redo the timestamps to clock time.

For pbr live i think they alot of times lose streaming at the events or events finish sooner than allotted so pluto is putting in that warp speed filler. So you cant tell if its a pbr or pluto streaming problem. PBR used to have thier own ridepass streaming app and even on that they would randomly cut out or the event wouldnt start. Thats why i started using a different channel for this issue to eliminate pbr specific problems. Now that everything appears to be working im attempting recording pbr again, including scheduling a recording for a time the guide hasnt updated for yet. Although im asking for trouble having introduced the auto transcode at the same time.

I think i never considered how pluto wouldnt be just one long stream like OTA is. I remember back in the day when i used to use an xbox to transcode with media center that i would sometimes have this issue with the ts files i ripped from dvds.

No the issue I saw was with the source scraping even with the streamlink CLI.

OTA isn't always a continuous stream either. Sometimes things get inserted and the timestamps do get reset. Analog recording with generated timestamps are better. Microsoft had the right idea with dvr-ms and wtv and built in indexing and v4 NextPVR had something similar, but now there are more clients that don't undertand these.

did a random recording last night by just setting up a manual recording for a 30 min period. I turned on auto transcode but set it to nvidia since i have an nvidia card on the pc. The recording works fine in desktop app but i dont think nvidia auto transcode did anything since it wont play properly in web or kodi. So then i did a quick 5 min record test just now with auto transcode on cpu and it works fine everywhere. So it looks like im good to go, just one more test tonight with a manual recording and cpu auto transcode.

Looking back, auto transcoding not being on is what sent me down this whole crazy path thinking there was an issue because web wouldnt play the recordings. Maybe putting a note on the extra plugin docs mentioning if youre using kodi or the web app for pluto you may want to start with auto transcode on.

Transcoding files is in general best practise for files that don't skip no matter what the source nothing to do with extras.
