Just a thought that I and or others would find handy would be a scheduled batch transcode option.

It has been observed that on the fly transcoding during recordings seriously degrades efficiency while watching other channels.
But what if there was an option to set up transcoding during off peak hours? Say nightly at 3am, weekly at 3am, or monthly at 3am...etc.

Yes there are stand alone scripts and softwares that could do this but transcoding is already a part of nextpvr.

What does everybody think?

I would prefer a more generic infrastructure. Something like:
  • Add a "Delayed Postprocessing" mechanism
  • It would run a DelayedPostProcessing script file passing it the same parameters as the regular PostProcessing script
  • When a recording completes, the regular PostProcessing script (if it exists) would be executed like normal plus the recording would be added to a queue for Delayed Post Processing
  • Add a Delayed Post Processing thread which would process the recordings from that queue. The thread could be configurable with parameters like Maximum Simultaneous Threads, Only Start Thread If No Recordings In-progress, Only Run Between Specified Times, etc.

This sort of generic infrastructure give the user many more possibilities for what could be done besides just transcoding such as to delay Comskip processing, to move completed recordings to a NAS, etc.
