I am switching from analog cable to Verizon FIOS. Since all the channels will change I am cancelling all the pending scheduled recordings (one-shots and recurring). Going through the list I find that there are a lot of obsolete recording requests. Some are for programs that are no longer in production. Others are due to programs that have changed which day they appear.

It seems to me that a part of regular data base housekeeping (not just when your channel lineups are about to change), it is probably a good idea to clear out the list of scheduled recordings and re-enter new recording schedules. This would get rid of a bunch of entries that are just dead wood and never will cause a program to be recorded.

Having a way to clear out the pending recordings with a single entry would make this a lot easier.

I wouldnt want the app to do this automatically. The user would have to explicitly say if they wanted to cancel a recurring recording.

If you cancel a season recording, it'll cancel all the scheduled recordings for that particular show.

I agree completely. Maybe even make it something that could be done within CONFIG where the user could request that all scheduled recordings be cancelled.

I started out with my Recurring programs. It was a list of over 100 entries. These were much less than 100 unique shows. Then after eliminating the recurring schedules I had to go and get the one-shot scheduled programs which was another long list.

I have found myself in a spot a bunch of times where trying to enter a recurring schedule I wasn't able to do it but could enter a one-shot recording request.

In the end, a large percentage of the "scheduled" recordings I found were ones that were obsolete, due to the series having ended or moved to another day or time. I also had a number of times where there were multiple recurring recording requests for a show, each on the same day but slightly different time ranges that overlapped each other. I don't know if the situations that caused me to enter multiple similar requests were unique to me or may have caused others to end up with similar reaults.

I have very many "dead wood" scheduled recordings.
I leave them there in the hope of the show returning and me not noticing it.
I would like to add even more, directly, without needing to do so via finding one in the TV guide. (I know some bit of the web interface can do this, but I rarely use it).

Probably a coding nightmare... but if recordings knew there has not been a recurring recording in a week or two (or maybe months for new seasons), that if it found another program but on a different day/time, it asked if you would like to change your recurring recording to a new scheduled time that it found.

I can't say specifically but I'm pretty sure that cancelling the season for a program did not get additional one-shot recording requests for the same program. Unfortunately, so much has happened since I did the deletions that I can't give a specific example.

do it with sqlit3.exe and a cmd line...should be pretty easy..
[or your favorite db3 editor]
just delete * from recording_schedule where type= and status= what you'd like to get rid of..[season/one offs/recurring]
there's a list of what the status= means somewhere here..
of course backup db before hand just in case...Smile

It'll only delete the pending recordings it created automatically as part of the season recording. It wont attempt to delete any one-off recordings you scheduled separately.
