The problem is that my NextPVR v5.27 "Settings" does not have a "Decoders" screen.  I have a "Transcoder" choice.  Obsolete error message?

The complete error message is:  "Missing audio? You don't have a AC3 decoder selected. You can fix this on the Settings->Decoders screen."

This is a "showstopper" because the error message times out, and then the recorded video is NOT played.  If I run NextPVR using a browser (127.0.0....), then the recorded TV show plays both video and sound, albeit the newly installed Comskip does not skip commercials as it should.  Logs are attached.

The Settings | Decoders screen is in the NextPVR.exe client settings not the NextPVR server settings (in the web app). While running the NextPVR.exe client, right click on the background and select settings there.

Note that Windows doesn't include an AC3 decoder, so you will need to install one if you don't already have one. You could use AC3Filter or the LAV Filters package. Also note that the NextPVR.exe client is a 32-bit program, so you need the 32-bit version of whichever you choose--even if you are running 64-bit Windows!

Unfortunately, I did not.  I DID go to "Help" in the localhost:8866 GUI under "Is there any documentation available" and went to the https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki URL, but it never occurred to me to search further under "player-settings" because I was searching for a audio problems, audio problem solutions, trouble-shooting hints, etc.  I thought my settings were okay because it worked previously and I did not change any settings. nor any decoders.  As it turned out, those audio decoders were inherited from v4 and I did not have that problem running v4.   In fact I did not install any decoders at all - it just worked for some reason (until the problem started).

Anyway, thanks for gently telling me where to look.  After much more confusion on my part, there was finally another reply on the forum that suggested I change to Lav decoders.  I finally did that for all the audio decoders, and all is well now, so happy ending.  I learned a lesson too - that what worked in the paste, may not work in the future.  Thanks again.

Basically you got lucky in the past, and NextPVR was able to use some decoders that some other application installed. Changes in whatever software was supplying those decoders would have affected NextPVR's ability to use them. Installing the LAV decoders would have made sure there was a set of decoders available that NextPVR could use.
